I have a list of about 6 cars that im shopping for, both of those are on it.

Heres what ive gathered so far:
I30 is cheaper, relative with similar options and mileage
I30 is a nissan, thats just bonus points
I30 has a timing chain, as opposed to all lexus models that have a belt which needs to be replace at 90k and this is very costly.
I30 came out with new styling in 00 and went up in similar styling upto 04
I30 is quicker off the line

Es300 is a more luxurios quieter ride
Es300 has a better reputation and sound more prestigous as a LEXUS
Es300 in my opinion looks better in that year
Es300 Nakamichi is far better than the BOSE

Otherwise i feel they are pretty much the same, I would buy the Es300 but ive been a sucker for Lexuses ever since I knew what a car was, finally i reached a point in my life where I drive one everyday, unfortunately its not mine

Maybe if you go for the 02 Es youd be in a better field, but those are ooogly

the es300 is based off the camry, i think infiniti sounds better than lexus, when people think lexus these days its the car everyone and their mothers have the is300, everyone drives the rx330, and the ls430 isnt too popular here in LA. Personally Id stick to infiniti, i drive an i30 and i prefer it compared to the gs300 i used to have, although a tad more comfortable, but still.

It really depends on what you're looking for. The ES will appeal to someone who values luxury over performance. It is a bit more refined than the I30, but not that much. In the ES, the engine and the passenger compartment are quieter; the seats are softer; and the fuel economy is better. The I30 prevails when it comes to performance and interior and trunk space. I'm 6'4" and feel like I can spread out in my I30, but feel cramped when in my mom's ES.

Gonna be hard to persuade her. Older folks love lexuses. If my dad and i were riding in my I or my buddys TL, he would be like "this is a really nice car, rides like a LEXUS." And i'd rebutt, "No it rides like an INFINITI." goodluck, but mommies prefer lexi's

Actually the ES and GS series are sweet *** Luxury cars. I give them their respect, I haven't drove one more than 2 days worth, but honestly I enjoy not feeling a damn thing on the road.

Neither is a bad car but clearly, the ES 300 is a best selller and near the top every year since 1992. Its not sporting but it also does not pretend to be. When u add dealer service and perks and top notch quality, your mother would be very happy with the ES.

I agree, but Infiniti dealers aren't far behind Lexus dealers in service

ES300's have a timing belt, but they are also a non-interference engine.
