LCD in stock NAV location?

That piece above the infiniti clock, isn't that one location for the nav screen? I mean it just seems like wasted space to me, and I am thinking of building a carputer with MCE2005 or some other huge GUI to use with a touch screen so I can play my mp3's dvds videos etc, but I don't want the screen to be obtrusive. It'd be cool to mount a Xenarc or Liliput 7" touch screen under there, and have the ability to fold that up and down to maintain the stock look, reduce glare, and integrate it into the current system. I hate stuff hanging from my dash. Any ideas/pics? Thanks.

I suppose it would be possible if there's nothing there, If you're gonna go with a carputer, you need to check out this first: www.dashpc.com

I've always wanted to do something like that. My dad has stock nav on his I35 and the screen is just too cool. But actually getting those parts would be rather difficult/expensive. Not too many I30/I35s out there and even fewer with Navigation. Your best bet is to find a car that's been junked with it and try to get the parts related to the screen.

While I was doing the research for your Dash Kit, I also looked into the LCD screen from Cefiro. The stock screen for 2000+ I30/I35 is either a 5.5" or 6" or 6.5" LCD screen right? I know I can get the 7" power LCD screen that fit on that location and is pretty quality.

If there is a demand for that screen (pops up and close down like the stock Navi screen), I will do my BEST to find you guys one.

Thanks guys. Stock is the best bet for me, however I would rather have one of those VGA touch screens so i can do a carputer there. Having the mechanism to mount there and have it move up and down like stock would be nice. It'd require some fabrication hinges and rails, but I wonder how hard it would be. Stock look + media center would be cool

SY...I'm interested. Especially since I'm beginning AV in my car now. Of course, it will depend heavily on pricing. I know a while back MaxMojo was looking into getting a stationary screen that replace that part of the dash completely. That fell through mostly due to the lack of a color match, but I'm still interested, particularly in what you can come up with. I'm sure there are others here who might be interested too.

i looked into doing this msyelf with my computer in my car....i have a 7" touch screen and was defeated by the narrowing of the pocket as it goes towards the windsheild...my screen is just too big...then there was the fact that i had to fab rails, maybe motorize the thing, the hieght from the open top to the bottom was too small for the monitor and maybe (not sure) the pocket was too skinny at the front. i mounted my screen on top of my cpu in my dash...it stands infront of the vents and the clock...looking back it would have been nice to flush mount the screen into the center dash or stick it in the stock navi spot. the way i have it mounted it shakes with the bumps and the mount isnt made to withstand all the potholes here in ct so i am constantly adjusting the screw that holds it upright...pain in the a$$. just my experience...tell me what you come up with...

I remember someone along time ago had an I30 (not in this forum) but had aftermarket navigation motorized like a stock system to work in the I30. I think the system was pioneer or something. This was a while ago though. I came across this for the g35 and thought you guys might be interested.

Basically if you take the bracket and housing and screw it in to the I30/I35 compartment up top, you can probably get something to work up there.
