Should I buy this Y-pipe, I need some help!!!

Hi

I am thinking of buying this y-pipe that needs a new flex section. The seller told me that I could take it an exhaust shop and get it replaced? Is this true? How much would this cost? Where could I get this done?

Please let me know that way I can either buy it or pass on it!!!!!

Just get a brand new one for $160 from Warpspeed. I figure to replace the flex section a shop would charge you AT LEAST $75. Then of course you must be buying the Y-Pipe itself for around $75. So why go through all that BS when you can just get a brand new one. I actually just ordered my Budget SS and I can't wait till it gets here next week.

I agree with the above. Unless is darned near free, it's not worth it. Because it will cost about $40-$70 just for the flex and another $50-ish for the install.

MaxMutes,
Did you get a b-pipe as well? and if you don't mind me asking how much did you get the Budget y-pipe for?
I'm undecided if I should go with Budget or Warspeed.

Nah, I didn't get a B Pipe this time around. I might in the future.

It's about $200 US Dollars shipped for Budget Stainless Steel Y-Pipe. I think to be exact I paid 202.85 after conversion of Canadin to American currency. Honestly, I was hesitant and undecided like you, but I just liked Budget overall. Their website is more professional, I hear nothing but GOOD about them and they're stainless steel for only $40 more.

EDIT: LMAO @ your Sig. ... 8NISSAND Ho(i)da

Where can I get Warpspeed products?
Also, which one fits my 01t? I can't seem to figure out on their site (unless there's another site) which parts will fit.

And Luigi38, isn't it VLSD not VLDS?

Don't mean to steal your post but I was under the impression that the Y-pipe (non-fed) install required the relocation of the 02 bungs (moved behind the rear cat) otherwise the CEL may come on. Is this true, or am I wrong?

Hrm... I just got an email response from Budget and they quote $208 for the B-pipe w/ resonator plus $20 shipping = $228. So I picked up the phone called warpspeed and talked to Dallas and got their B-pipe w/ resonator for $170 shipped ($25 discount if you have bought a Y-pipe from them)... Yes the warspeed is not stainless steel, but he indicated that this is a new design/fit for stock mufflers where there took out the "S" piece and fitment is better. Can't wait!

Umm... I'm leaning towards budget, but it's a 100 difference, and I need an o2 sensor as well.

What would you guys recomend

-Budget (SS)

y-pipe $200
b-pipe $228 (w/ resonator)
-------------
total $428 shipped

-Warspeed (Alum)

y-pipe $170+
b-pipe $170+ (w/ resonator)
discount -$25
---------------
total $315 shipped

You might want to search the Gen 5 stickies about the Budget Y-pipe. There were quite a few people complaining about it.

The gen 5 y-pipe has a different design that the gen4. Therefore any problems in the gen 5 do not apply to my case.
thanks anyway

I had that sense when I saw a photo of it.

BTW, should people consider replacing the headers in addition to the Y-pipe, or is the cost/horsepower gain not worth it?

IMHO its not worth the 6-8 horsepower that u could gain from it for the money. i woul dmuch rather take that money and put it towards a turbo kit or something that will produce more gains later on. 7 or 800 bux just doesnt seem worth it to me

Yeah, but they look damned good. I mean come on, even with an aftermarket y pipe, you still have those rusted @ss POS cast manifolds on there... maybe most dont care, but that **** aint gonna fly with me. I am really tempted to buy some and put them on this coming month when I do my 5spd VLSD swap. I will have the y pipe already out along with the cross member motor mounts so the installation would be a breeze. Also, since I am gonna boost after that, I am hoping the tubular headers will provide better gains that the stock mainfolds.

I will be using SC boost not turbo boost. With turbo boost this is a moot point. Glad to hear that your y pipe went on with out any fitment issues.

If it is one thing I have learned about modding cars, it is that you definitely get what you pay for.

Cattman and Stillen are the top of the line. Expensive, but top of the line. The quality of the welds on my cattman pipes are the best I have ever seen and the fitment is perfect. I gotta friend who bought the CE y pipe for $150 and the welds were quite sh!tty and they possibly might have pin hole sized leaks in them as well. Take into account zack342's experience with warpspeed and one will quickly realize there is a lesson to be learned.

Perhaps this is indeed a most expensive hobby, but it sure beats the **** outta playing golf or painting models...

Are there any less expensive, but acceptable alternatives to Cattman and Stillen?

well, some guys have had fitment issues with warpspeed like zack342, but others claim it fits fine. The CE pipe fits fine but the welds were not the greatest of quality, but I am a perfectionist. Some people might not see any problem at all with their weld job. I dont know what is up with budget. If I had to recommend one with out choosing stillen or cattman, I would go with CE. They are not to expensive at all, and I guess you get good enough quality for the money you pay. Just my .02.
