they flipped you off?!? what the heck, man. bunch of jerks.
jeez, i hate bad drivers and stories like this make me mad. like, no matter how safely i drive and how much i obey the traffic law, there are always people out there that are horrible drivers.
i'm glad you got their license plate number though. if you go easy on them, then you're a better man than i.

get a police report and file an insurance claim, theyll go after the person who owns the car, which means no expense out of your pocket.

sorry to say this but the insurance company will probably put some blame on you (rise in premium) because you were behind the wheel of the car and "had control" regardless if the person hit you or you hit them (well, unless the other person takes the fault). I'm not saying this will be the case but is likely, so make it clear to them before you file the claim. Call your insurance company's 1800# and ask CS a "what if" scenario to see if it is worth filing a claim. Don't forget to file a police report!! (police report and insurance claim are mutually exclusive). This case may be a little different b/c it was a hit and run.
Good Luck.

No...just say the car was parked and it was hit. Say that a fellow family member or neighbor seen it and just happened to get the license plate number and left you the note in your mailbox or under your doorstep. This way nobody was behind the wheel ever, and technically since it was a hit & run, well we're keeping it that way just not on the move.

That's what I would think too, but I never had this experience so I can't say for sure. Just remember to file that police report first!

You dont need a lawyer. If you get hit and run on, it's covered in your own insurance if you have full coverage, and your rates CAN NOT GO UP.
People, get educated.
Now since it seems you didnt call the police there and file a report (dumbass), you will be at the mercy of what your insurance company has as a maximum limit claim that wont raise your insurance. (mine is $750)

Hit and Run CAN NOT make your insurance go up because it's not your fault. However if you leave your company, other companies will see what sort of risk you are when the assess your information.Originally Posted by flewdawg

Someone hit me while I was parked a couple of weeks back. I feel for you man, it sux. At least you got his license though. I would think if you filed a police report with all the information you have, that the other driver will be responsible for the accident.
You shouldn't have to pay for this. Give your insurance the plate number, file a report and they should go after the other guy at no expense to you.
