Why does my tranny hesitate to downshift when the A/C is running, but has no hesitation when it is off?

I'm referring to situations where I punch the pedal, and not gentle acceleration.

Shouldn't the electronics be compensating for the change?

Or is it a torque converter issue, rather than an ECU or ECT issue?

My dad always turned the AC off when he was at the drag strip.

Not entirely relevant, but I think it does have some effect..

 

a/c robs horsepower thats y you never run at the track with the a/c on

 

your compressor turns off at WOT so your situation is normal
