Expensive past week with the ol' I30

So, last week the alternator died at 110K miles, and I ordered Illuminas all the way around. $$$
After spending lots and lots of money (i'm poor so it's a lot to me) I was driving home last night and accidently drove right onto a flooded road and my car died. So it looks like my intake (injen style fake one) sucked in all types of nasty water and I might need a new Engine. fun fun... Might have helped had I not tried to start my broken down car a few times or had I driven a little slower... oh well we live, learn, and pay dearly for it$$$$$$

AAA is so gonna start charging me for all these tows pretty soon.

ohh man that blows, usually you need to be submerged in deep water for the engine to actually die. You need to get the little water out of the engine.
best luck

If he had a cool air intake that placed the filter really close to the bottom then it would not take much submersion to get the intake yo suck up water. He probably is looking at a new engine.

Sorry to hear that man. You have my sympathy.

Try removing the spark plugs and cranking the engine around by hand to spew out any water, and put a little oil in the cylinders. Then cross your fingers that you didnt bend any valves.

Well guys... pulled the plugs etc..etc.. and she fired up. No bent valves or whatever
In the process of changing out all the spark plugs and changing the oil with some synthetic 5w30

Thanks!
Yea it's running better than before this sh** happened. I'm sure I needed new plugs.

Getting some 215-60-15 Traction T/As after the Illuminas get put on.

I'm so glad things are sort of looking up again. Last week I was so ready to go and get a "new" car, and sell the I30 later. I found a black 04 Forester XT (for high ground clearance due to flooding in SW FL) 5 speed with 20k miles for $18.5k, and misc 98-99 GS400s for around that price.

You should consider getting a Cattman/PR style CAI. One thing I dont like about the Injen is that it hangs so close to the ground w/o any protection from the elements... such as water

LOL... true, but I swore that I did everything wrong. I was so suprised when it fired right up. It feels so nice to finally have a good running car again. When I was lucky last week my mom let me drive her Camry..god that car is so ridiculously slow...95 LE rare 2 dr 2.2ltr hell. It's nice to have a little horsepower.

Update...

Well, after removing the spark plugs, cranking the motor and watching (a bunch of) water shoot up in the air out of all 6 cylinders I was absolutely amazed when my car fired up. This has been totally unbelievable. This VQ is one hell of a strong engine to be able to take in nasty flood water twice in one month and still run with perceivably no damage. The SES light is on now, but I don't notice any lack of power or roughness in it's operation. All I have to say is I am one really super lucky S.O.B.!!!
Go Nissan engineers!

p.s. The stock intake is going back on today..finally...

Holy crap!!! You are lucky

I wouldn't test your luck again though. lol. GET A DIFFERENT INTAKE!!!! Injen sux.

What do all of you guys think of this... A valve somewhere high on the intake piping that will open when a vaccume is created by well, sucking up water? Doesn't seem like it would be to difficult to figure out. Id rather be sucking in a little unfiltered air than water any day. And of course when you are out of the water the valve would close again reverting to normal opperation.

Is there a product like this out there already? I bet it would make a lot of money off of Injen users

Sounds like it could be a good idea, but if you were driving in South Florida during hurricane season, sometimes you can't avoid the water if you HAVE TO drive. I'm no engineer or anything but it seems to me that you would need to have an alternate source of air (some type of intake that sits up real high) in order for the car to breath while the bottom intake would be submerged in water.

Well... unless you didn't mind your car stalling out and having to push it in the water. (at least it would keep you from killing it)
