do i need a new cluster?

when installing some white face guages on my 96 i pulled the needles out with the posts. when i reinstalled them only the tach works. when i tap the cluster the speedo needle moves with each tap twards the speed i am going. i am going to try to take everything apart and put it back together again and see what happens. anyone run into this before? never let me do anything without consulting a write up or asking questions first. thanks--dave

You need to tighten the screws on the back of the gauge cluster.

The screws on the very back of the gauge cluster where the harness connectors plug in. There are many of them. My friends 96's speedo was always cutting out on him and if he pounded the dash, it would jump back up again. I did a search and found out that tightening the screws on the back of the cluster solves the problem... So he did it and it solved the problem.
