I don't have the car to check the tranny code. Did all 5mt touring models have VLSD?

From the Nissan literature I have read, VSLD was an option but at the same time I have never seen a 5spd I30 w/o limited slip.

LSD was standard on touring. It was optional for non touring. This is a great link for info. According to this, one could even have the ultimate base I30 with cloth, no sunroof, and open differential 5spd tranny just like whats in the maxima.

According to Edmunds, the Touring edition in 96 also had LSD as a standard feature:

What do you guys think about the car? Specs:

$6200 for a 96 I30T 5MT in my color preference (pearl white over black leather), all of the usual options, and 100% bone stock. 88K on the ODO, new clutch, all service records complete from a dealership. PP book is lower than that, but that does not take the rarity of the car into consideration.

For reference, my mildly modded 97 was $6500 last feb (04) with 97K on the clock, BUT 1/2 of the mods came right off, and the car had run N2O.

Personally, I'd hold out for at least book value considering that amongst regular people (Read: non-enthusiasts) an I30 with a manual transmission is probably not the easiest thing to move.

On the other hand, considering the rarity and the fact that it's your preferred color combo, it might be worth the premium to go ahead and bite now before it (possibly) gets away.

That is the arguement going through my head right now. I looked far and wide after the 97 was destroyed and found nothing closer than FL. I am very happy to pay $6000, but the guy seems pretty set @ $6200. I keep wondering if making a big deal over $200 and loosing the car will not leave me regretting my stubbornness.

Some wear, but nothing too out of the ordinary for a 9 year old car. Hell, for $200 difference, just go ahead and do it. Worth the peace of mind.

If you shorten the address to www.infinitinews.com, it takes you to the main news site for nissan. Click on the "site archive" link at the bottom and all sorts of wonderful things are presented. You can even get the specs for the nissan vehicles too. For some reason the furthest it goes back is 97, but the 96-97 I30s are identical in terms of options. It was in 98 that the options changed. For example, in 98 the base I30 with cloth, no sunroof, and open differential 5spd was eliminated.

Sounds pretty good. If the vehicle is in the typical good shape then I would offer a solid 6K. If it is flawless, then I would go ahead and pay them extra $200. Either way it a good deal and I would kick tires and hit the road in that baby!

If he is that subborn, then I would just cave and pay the extra $200. The car is ultra rare after all with the stick and LESS than 100K and few people can appriciate this.

Looks pretty solid. The leather, doors pannels, trim, and exterior are all good. Could use some new floor mats and a new antenna, but over all I'd jump on it.

I still have a 2000 SE 5MT in sterling mist. It is my wife's car, btu she has plans for it- springs/struts, light tint, and a set of the older Mille Miglia MM-11^2 rims in 17x8...if I can find some.

As for me, I have big plans, if I get this I30!

Given all of the factors, I am willing to pay the asking price. He was very forthcoming with th edefects- scrapes on th ebumpers, antenna, and what the car does and does not have. He paid $6200 fo rit 2-3 weeks ago, btu then bought a house and is sharing a car w/ his brother (who cannot drive a 5MT). He is a max enthusiast who bought it as an upgrade from his maxima, but now has changed priorities. He knows how rare it is, and I think is being fairly level with me on things.

He is also taking his time working out the deal- not rushing me into it or trying to tell me about how many other interested people he has. After we talked on the phone Sun, he emailed me last night to tell me that when he gets back from vacation, he wants to work a deal w/ me over the other prospects just because he knows that I will do right by the car.

BUY IT!

It needs a few things though- 97 center console, SE gauges, 350Z pedals, clear tails, Cefiros and Y pipe and some suspension. Consider some ES bushings for $30 while you're at it. Oh yeah, a tint and a nice detailing job.

BUY IT!!

EDIT- It could also use Ben's rear mounts and a hacked air box.....

I forgot, you also need the T.E.T. poly shifter bushing, which should be easy to install if you do it with the B&M. Also a FSTB....probably nice tires....a sub or two....the list goes on

But the B&M STS was probably the best $130 I ever spent.

Seller is on vacation. He sent me the VIN last week. All checks out- tranny is confirmed VLSD, Carfax is 100% clean and jives with what the seller reported to me, and dealer service records are fairly comprehensive. Nick has offered to give me a ride to test drive it and to pick it up. I plan to send a deposit as soon as the seller returns from vacation. Funds are in place, and I hope to get the car the weekend after next.
