Go to the GB forum and buy either the Helios kit or the Prolumen kit, Can't go wrong with either.

WIth proper aiming this will not happen.

Prolumen products don't have the same type of glare that other kits with 8K and up do. THis is why we recommend staying below 6K.

Your best option is retro-fitting some xenon/bi-xenon projectors in there. Other than that, if you go with a kit, I recommend 4100K-6000K.
4000K = the brightest most lumens. color will be a bright white with hint of yellow
5000K = pure white color with less lumens than 4000K, but still very good output
6000K = white with a hint of blue, purple, or green depending on kit
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
7000/8000K = blue greenish color.
9000K+ = purple - totally useless IMO
Also if you get a kit don't forget to buy or make a harness so you don't fry your factory harness.
Does the color temperature really have that much to do with the amount of glare? I thought it was mostly dependent on proper positioning of the arc (light source) inside the reflector.
9006 reflectors are actually one of the best suited of retrofits, so you shouldn't have any glare problems as long as you go with a quality kit. Also remember to properly aim/re-aim your headlamps after the install.
I've got 6000k Philips Ultinons in my lamps and absolutely love the output and color.
Yes, I believe the lowbeam reflectors are different between the Lux and touring models.
Not so much the temp. But more the housing. The color doesn't give glare but the higher temps color band won't cause your pupils to contract thus giving the impression of glare and causing eye fatigue. The quality kit agrument doesn't hold up, because you can stick a quality kit in a reflector housing that wasn't made for HID and you WILL have glare.
i have 27k hid's, n its really really really purple. i really don't know if if that much worse since the stock headlights are pretty bad. i also have cefiros. If you're planning to get cefiros since they're a direct fit for our cars, then make sure you get the right ones for the cefiro's n not the 9004 or 9007 if you did the conversion. so think about what you want to do before you order the hid kit. no sens of buying 2 hid kits when you're only going to be using one.
How well did your 27billionK Kit perform in the rain?
WTH is 27000k HIDs??? The highest I've seen is 12,000k, and that ish is so purple you may as well as use it as a tanning bed light.
by 12000K, you are literally 1/3rd of a 4300K in light ouput, no better than a standard halogen H7 or H1. Why would you do something that dumb? Who knows
I'm glad you posted those pics. Thats the same color I30 I've got and wondered how the black housing would look with that color....I'm thinking the OEM reflective chrome housing looks better.
Anyhow, I've been doing a lot of reading lately about HID/Xenon/Bi-Xenon/HALO/Halogen..blah blah blah. I'm trying to get all the terms and what-not straight in my head. I'm hearing alot of people say that its better to "retrofit" HID's than to use an HID kit. If I understand the term "retrofit" correctly, I'm a little hesitant to tear apart my headlight and start custom-designing a casing for HID bulbs. Hopefully this isn't a stupid question, but isn't there a relatively simple way to "retrofit" HID's for an I30?
I would much rather just buy a kit that fit my headlights, BUT if it creates a crappy glare and beam pattern, then I dont think its worth it? Any thoughts?
As far as the black lamps in the pics above, I dont like how the turn lens is blacked out. But I've got a Millenium Jade and blacked out the frames, and it looks awesome (if i can pat myself on the back).
For the HIDs you will be fine if you just get a kit from a reputable company. People really over react about retrofitting projectors or HID reflectors. Truth is that 9006 systems work very well as long as the bulb has been properly aligned. The kit that I have been using for over 2 years provides a great beam pattern, coverage, and I have never been flashed once! Cutoff is nothing to write home about, but I've never seen factory reflector based HIDs that were. Just remember to aim your headlights after the install.
Is there an actual kit for 01 I30's that includes projectors? If not, how difficult would it be to install them? Based on some of the pics I've seen, projectors produce an awesome pattern and cutoff point.
I just found this nice set of replacement headlights. I think they look better than the ones in the previous pick and they have built-in projectors. I would assume that you could upgrade to HID pretty easily.
