Will a 98-99 Oblique fit a 96-97 trunk with no problems whatsoever? Or do you need a 98-99 trunk lid as well?

Curious, cuz my 98-99 Oblique bellies out in the middle and water keeps gettin in and there's absolutely nothin I can do to get it to pull in and be flush with the trunk lid. I tried everything. Is it possible that plastic can warp? I know it sounds stupid, but I dont understand why it doesn't fit...

This happened to my 99 center panel as well. Go to your local auto suppy and get a tube of 3m window weld in black. Run a bead of on the top of the panel where it has seperated. Clamp the seperated parts together for 4 hours. I dd this 4 years ago and no more water. 99 and 96 panels are exactly the same dimensionally.

Max Mutes;

Had the same problem with my 98 I30T and seems like many others do also. The fix for me was to pull the damn assembly off the car (there are four tricky fasteners in the center) and run a bead of black silicone between the two halves. If you have the ability to do a search, I did a write up on the process last summer. Anyhow, it has been several months, through about a foot of rain, and no leaks. Good luck and pm me if you need further info (also have some pics).

Yes the 96/97 and 98/99 tails and obliques are interchangable, but the center oblique from one year shouldn't be used with tails from the other, it looks way wrong.

They look fine mixed. I have them mixed on both my I30s---they are fine that way. Someone on here said they don't line up and they are wrong. You are spreading that misinformation I believe. If someone can host--I can send pics of 99 center with 96 tails and 99 tails with 96 center on my 2 cars.

They do line up, but the 96-97 Tailights and center piece has the indent line in the middle to it. If you use 98-99 Tailights with 96-97 Center Piece, from far away it looks okay (I just saw one in Flushing, NY yesterday). But when you look from the side, you can see the indent line and the smooth which don't really look right? But still looks better than the stock Red & Orange.

Anyone seen the center piece with license plate in the middle and cefiro corner tails? Very nice, but I30's need a new bumper with this set up, or custom bodywork to smooth out bumper. I have not seen this on any I30's yet, but I am sure that will change. Going to get this for my I30, just need to figure out rear bumper situation.

Yeah, it's the setup on certain trims of Cefiro, mostly Taiwanese market, possibly also some Japanese Cef's and Aussie market Maximas. You'll need the center oblique and both taillights, this center section DOES NOT line up correctly with either version of the I30 tails, I mean, it will fit, but aesthetically it DOES NOT line up. Not to mention, you will need to modify your bumper or get one without the plate indention.

EDIT: I've seen the taillights on ebay, but I've never seen that center section availiable on ebay or in the general US market. I like the look they have though, Good luck to you and post pics when you get it done!

SYCEFIRO: correct me if I am wrong, but I believe you have access to that center piece listed on Ebay where the plate goes in the middle?

I saw that post on Ebay the other day, but I would never buy from that guy since his score is not very good. Be careful! I don't want you to get screwed out of your money or anything.

They now sell the complete set outer cefiro tails and middle section with license plate in the middle with small tail and backup. Its just like the 97 Cefiro in they sold in Thailand. Rear bumper will have to be changed or modified as I said before. Will post pics when car is painted.

Thats why I asked anyone about this, saw that on fleabay last week. Looks great, just wondering what to do with the bumper, modify or change. I'll give almost anyone a chance, credit card protection...if I don't get it, I don't pay.

TIM96I30t: I think you might want to talk with SYCEFIRO and see what he can do for you. He seems to have a lot of parts from overseas, and if he doesn't have them, he can get them for you. He might be able to get you a Cefiro bumper as well, which would mean you won't have to mod it.

I hear you about the credit card protection thing, I just wanted to point it out in case anyone didn't see that rating. lol (just looking out for my fellow Org. members)

IMO, check with SYCEFIRO.

Yeah, he never returned, any emails. I emailed him a couple times, asking for 96-99 I30 parts, no response. I took that as he is either to busy,or does not sell I30 parts anymore. Going to see what my body shop would charge to fill in the license plate recess for this rear end conversion. Thanks maxima.org has always helped me out.

Tim, It may be hard to find the right bumper, and considering there are enough differences that the cefiro body kits won't properly fit an I30 without modification, I'd say you'll probably be better off modifying the bumper, find a body shop that's good with fiberglas, shouldn't be a problem. Personally, I'm waiting till I can do an LED retrofit and I'm going to paint all the red parts of my obliques and tails with the Niteshades paint, leaving the little reflectors masked off. Then I'm going to plate the "I N F I N I T I" letters in black pearl plating and put them back on. But that will be after I get the car redone in Super Black.

I emailed ya back as soon as you PM'd me. Hmm... that's strange.
Anyhow, the one's the guy sold on Ebay are Aftermarket parts... but they would fit the i30's in USA (with very minor tweek)...

But if you want to use the one with license plate in the center, then you should use the right bumper that comes with that model. Otherwise, you may NOT pass any state inspection due to the fact that the license plate lights are located on the bumper itself.

Yes, I have access to the OEM parts or aftermarket parts that you see there. But since they are quite large (i.e bumpers)... it would be costlyl to ship. But they are available.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks

That's okay Sy, I've got a set ready to plate, new automotive adhesive cut for them and everything... but I'll remember you if the plating doesn't go as expected.

Do you still have any of the power folding mirrors left? Just curious, I need to PM you, I'm looking to try to get some OEM Yulon/Nissan parts and was hoping you could get them.
