Front engine mount on the BACk???!!!!

Hey guys,

So I had posted in the past about my unusual rear motor mount with electronic controls on my 97 I30t. Nobody else had ever heard of one, and it's not mentioned anywhere in the FSM's for either the I30 or the Maxima. Well, I took the intake ducting out today and looked at the connectors going to both the front and rear motor mounts, and with the help of a new friend, noticed that the wires going to the rear mount were spliced in (covered in electrical tape and not the usual plastic looming of an OEM install) with the wires going to the front. Another thing is that there were connectors for both. Here's what I'm thinking, could someone have taken a front electronically controlled mount and mounted it on the back, then spliced the wires in?

The reason I am presenting this question is because I just replaced my entire suspension (Tokico Illuminas/Tokico springs, new strut mounts and boots, and had already done many other suspension items including ES control arm bushings, new OEM sway bar bushings, new inner tie rod ends, etc.) and I still have this strong vibration under fairly hard acceleration at around 2000 rpm. In the service manual, it says that the engine mount control hardens at just over 2000 rpm, which leads me to believe it is that which is causing my problem. I have since disconnected the rear motor mount and connected only the front one and I still have the same vibration. I have also changed both axels, lower ball joints, and added a strut tower bar. The front mount seems like it is strong and not torn, though the back one does as well, but when I rock the car back and forth while it is in Park, the engine lifts and settles inside the mount.

Anyways guys, I'm really confused with this one, and it is all that is left to making me absolutely happy with how my car drives. I thank you in advance for your help.

Paul

Vibration issues are a pain in the **** to figure out. Best advice I can give is to replace the mounts. That seems to be the only option you have at this point.

The problem with replacing the mounts is that I don't know if only one is bad or if both of them are. If I replace the rear one with a non-electronically controlled one (the only one people know about), it costs me $65. If I need to replace the front one, it's going to cost me $150 or so, but then I might find out the other one might be the bad one. I'm not very comfortable with the idea that I would have to replace either since they both seem good.

One more thing, if anyone has a set or even just the front or back mounts from their I30 or Maxima SE, GLE they are willing to sell, I might try to do the Poly filling idea, but I need a set to make while I keep driving the car.

Get that ghetto rigged rear mount outta there and replace it with a new oem one and see it it solves your problem.

Yeah, I kinda figured that's what I was going to have to do.

PS, I love your car man. I just wish my engine bay looked as clean as yours. too bad that a little oil leak can really make it filthy.

It sounds like you have two front mounts, one should be good, just get the right rear mount for your car. Then put the good front mount and new rear mounts on, then test it out. Vibration problems are difficult diagnosing by yourself.

Thanks man... Just spray the engine down with degreaser and then hit all the rubber and plastic with armor all and then throw on a mevi and a cone intake and a stillen fstb and nismo oil and radiator caps and it will look like that!

What oil leak do you have?
