My wifes 04 I35, that I drive when I can get it away from her has an anoying problem. At least it's anoying to me. While shifting the trany hesitates before going to the next gear. Is this common, is there a service bullitin that takes care of this issue? It is still under warranty.

It's because the drive-by-wire let's off of the throttle right before it shifts, it actually makes it shift pretty quick imo, if you race another fast automatic you'll notice that the 4at shifts much quicker than you think, it's almost like it's instantly in the next gear. But, there is a fix for it, jwt can reprogram the ecu for like $500 or something around there. If your wondering if there is a problem, take your car to a dealer that has an I35 and take it for a test drive.

 

oh and if it has under 70k it is still under warranty, it's even required that they give you a service loaner, usually a 4-door rwd G35 to beat on, ummm, i mean, drive.

 

I'm not totally sure on this as I haven't done much performance research on these vehicles and their ecu's. Most auto's allow for the ecu to learn driving styles. It could be that the way you drive and the way your wife drives are drastically different. The car I had before this one would take anywhere from 30-40 shifts to begin to learn a driving style. I say just put the shifter in 1st gear, shift when you're ready then do the same out of second especially if you driving it as little as you say you are. ;-)

 

Thanks for the replies. Falconey, I think I did read somewhere that the ecu does indeed have a learnig type program. And yes she drives like an old woman and I dont!

 

I'm not sure it targets your problem, but there is a TSB that addresses the hesitation often found with the drive-by-wire cars. It includes a MAF replacement and ECU reprogramming.

I had mine done under warranty 2-3 years ago. It drove better, IMO, after it was performed.

They do that even if it isn't under warranty. If I still have my I when I turn 21, I'll be able to take it in and get a loaner.

 

If you're so inclined, get a loaner now.

I've had my I35 brand new since I was 18, and have been getting a loaner from two different dealerships in two different towns since Day 1.
