Transmission cooler

With warm weather coming, i'm thinking of putting in a transmission cooler.

Any recommendations as to brands?

Any other gains besides increeased transmission life?

i just put mine in, get hayden model. I when to autozone and it was a piece. I when to napa, paid a little more but well worth it. Might try ordering it on ebay, save a bit. It saves the life of your tranny, what more would you want?

I am doing the same to my I30t, summit has them starting at about $40 and has many sizes and coooling capacities. I want to add a trans temp gauge when I do this as well so I can see the temp difference before and after install of cooler.

For those of you who have installed one, any chance of a write-up?

It has been discussed from time to time. I don't think anyone ever got around to doing it. I just don't think the oil gets hot enough and even if it did, there would be no way to get the oil to flow into the cooler as there is no pressure like in an auto tranny. In a 5 speed, the oil just sits there and the gears splash around in it.

Here's one from Greg's Garage on a 1999 Maxima SE with an Automatic tranny. This is a pretty informative install for a Hayden tranny cooler.

tranny cooler

So you run the fluid through the cooler AND still run it through the radiator as well? What's the point of running it through both? Wouldn't that be a lot more work for the pump to handle?
