any help please...gearshift
any help please...gearshift
my gearshift does not unlock when i press the brake pedal so i can take car out of parked gear. i have replaced the stoplight switch behind the brake pedal. i have even changed the switch next to it which probably has nothing to do with the problem. the gearshift still will not unlock and i have to push the shift lock in with an object to take car out of parked gear.
any ideas or suggestions of what could be wrong now? thanks.
note: the gearshift does make a clicking/unlocking sound when i press the stoplight switch button by hand, probably indicating that the stoplight switch indeed works.

This is really beyond what I know, but I thumbed through the FSM (on the I35, albeit), and it mentioned something about a PNP (Park Neutral Position) Switch that could possibly be bad or that the circuit it lies on is either shorted or open (check harness or connectors).
Is the PNP switch the stoplight switch you spoke of?
You might have better luck with this in the 5th gen forum

i am not sure if the PNP is the same as the stoplight switch. maybe u can tell me. the stoplight switch is a button switch i replaced that behind the lever of the brake pedal up under the dash behind the steering wheel (hope that makes sense). i was thinking of popping off the gearshift cover but i cant seem to find a safe place to start. i had a 91 maxima and it was easy but doesnt seem the same on the infiniti. i will search the forum on that or maybe one of u can tell me if u know off the top of your head. thanks again.
I don't have the FSM in front of me right now so I can't tell you for sure.
I'd try the 5th gen forums for this one though as you'll have a better shot at finding someone who has dealt with this before.
