New brakes

I need new brake rotors more specifically, and i don't have any grooves on the old ones. Im looking at getting the brembos solid faced in the GD section. Should i or should i not go with new aftermarket pads or can i hold off on them. My wheel is vibrating like a ***** and i can't stand it anymore. If i shoudl change the brake pads, what brand should i get, i've heard numerous praises about the Hawks and i've seen them on ebay for pretty cheap. or should i go pbr in the gd section. What do you all think the best setup is with new brembo solids all around. thanks peace.

I would only go with nissan pads. Others brands tend to dust and make noise like crazy.

What ever rotor you decide to go with avoid cross drilled. Get the slotted style instead. The cross drilled rotors tend to crack.

They won't crack like the cross drilled ones.

I disagree, the OEM pads are prone to warping the rotors on a 5th gen. I have Hawk HPS, which has no dust, no noise and even more bite than the OEMs when warmed up. I also would not get slotted rotors as there is no point, it doesn't make you stop sooner or anything. Furthermore with the slots, the surface area is reduced, and looking cool doesn't justify their purchase IMO.

00-01 brakes are not the same as 02-04 brakes, so I don't know that the warping that VQ35DE guys suffer from applies here. And on the 4th gen., anything other than OEM pads will dust like crazy and cause noise.

Oh oops, I thought 00-01 I30s shared the same brake components, nevermind my post then.

I think I'm having the same problem with my breaks. For the last few months whenever breaking at high speeds (like stopping on the highway for a red light) it feels like the steering wheel is shuttering. Is that what you're experiencing? Is that usually indicative of needing to replace the breaks?

BTW, I've got an 01 I30.

Thats indicative of a warped rotor.

I've been having the same problem.
I own a black 02 I35 and bought a brand new set of black wheels and tires (18") and my steering wheel shakes like crazy when I'm doing like 40 - 65 mph without using the brakes at all. It's just annoying!
I balanced the wheels, took the car for aligment, place new hub centric rings, and the car still shakes. ARGGH!
What do you guys think I should do next? Could the rotors be warped/bended even though the car only has 34k?
Any other advice?
thanks

I just got the hawk HPS pads and am very happy with them but they do seem to create more dust than stock. Although others would dissagree

I'm having the same problem Gian13 on my 02 i35.

Got two new tires, balance and alignment last July. Two weeks later, start noticing shaking through the wheel and pedals, but only between 55/60-70/75. Katrina hit and I drove up North. Had the tires re-balanced. Drove back home, they needed rebalancing again. Symptoms keep returning. Bought two more new tires, moved the first new ones to the back. Same problem. Car keeps shaking, apparently wheels are out of balance.

I take it into Infiniti dealer for some work and ask them to check it out. They have a Hunter9500. They say the road force variable on two of the tires is way off. So, I go back to Tire Kingdom (where I bought all four), and tell them. They hem and haw a little, then replace all four tires.

1 week later, car is shaking at 60mph again. I also replaced the front brakes and rotors about 3 months ago.

I'm beginning to think I may have some front end problems.

Your problem could be something different since it occurs with out using the brakes.

I had a problem like this a few years back. The steering wheel would shake violently above 60 mph or so. Brakes played no factor at all. After I replaced the old worn suspension (had like 80k on it) with tokico illumina struts and springs the vibration went away.

This might be the problem, but then again, you only have 34k which is not a lot.

Thanks for the tip I30ds.
To be honest with you I don't believe is the rotors or anything to do with the brake system since the pedal is steady and does not vibrate.
I've been thinking about lowering the front end of the car in the future (within the next 12 months) and hopefully that will solve the problem. I'll try to get the nicest set up to lower the suspension.
I've heard from different I35 owners that the suspension on our cars really suck compared with the suspension on the maximas.
Who cares?!! I'm in love with my i35 !!!

The suspension of the I35 is the same as the suspension of the 5.5 gen maxima.

I would go ahead and drop the whole thing as opposed to just the front.

Back to the brakes...Though mine is a gen (or two) back I've been very pleased with the EBC Red Stuff Pads mated to the dimpled & slotted rotors along with braided steel lines. I just put them on the front.

Dust is low but they do generate some noise like a constant wooshing that I'm fine with now. Stopping power is the best I've ever had & better than any OEM on any car I've had. Not too pricey either.

For the vibration issue, I had one myself once & moved tires f -> r, had it re-balanced & other stuff but finally what I did was a combination of things....

First, I cleaned the front rack & suspension components with the wheels off and used engine cleaner & scotchbrite pads on the components on both sides, I scrubbed the inside of each wheel to remove tar deposits & crap from the inside of each wheel and then I took it to a performance shop for an alignment & re-balance. Vibration gone.

If that had not worked out, I'd have changed tie-rod ends, control arm bushings & then shocks & steering rack. Fortunately, it's still fine after 20K miles but it's due for a cleaning again....
