Problem With Y-pipe??

Hey Guys,
I was changing my oil today and I noticed my y-pipe looks kinda mangled. I've never done any off-roading with it and I don't recall running over anything big so I'm not sure what caused this. Do you guys think this is a problem?

Also, I noticed this big gash in the frame. Could it have been this way from the factory or would this mean my I30 may have been in an accident? Its about two inches long.

Should not be a problem. Look at it as an excuse to get an aftermarket y pipe.

Thats kinda what I was hoping.

I was thinking about splurging on some headers, but HS appears to be belly up & I can't quite afford the Cattman headers right now.

Meh... just get the standard aftermarket y pipe then. I think CE makes a very affordable one.

My Y-pipe also went bad at 60.000miles with that flex part and i replaced it with Cattman Y-pipe... I can tell you that i'm very happy with it...

BTW, my car is CALI spec and the noise level after the replacement is almost same as before...

thanks for the feedback, guys! Anybody have thoughts on the gash in the frame? Does that look like it came that way from the factory or if it was damaged at some point in time?

It was probably damaged at some point. The previous owner might have ran over a large rock in the road.

Just sand the gash and put some primer on it, or rustoleum.

and about the flex section, a local exhaust shop could replace that for round 50-70 bucks, but if you're doing an aftermarket Y, go for it.

And why is your heat sheilding mangled? doesnt that cause rattling the way it is now?

Good question...thats one of the things I was wondering. Apparently somebody (possibly me) ran over something.

I think you would know if it was you that ran over something... unless you were drunk or high.

Maybe an animal was playing with it, or chewed on it, cat/squirel?
