2000 I30t Died Again During Cold Start
It's been a month since it last died on me, so I thought the problem went away, but nope, it's back... After searching around, it sounds very much like a MAF sensor going bad. This only happens during cold starts and I put it into gear right after start up, it would stutter with very low RPM for a few seconds, then it dies, but if I give it gas, it would be ok. It seems others with bad MAFs would experience loss of power at 3500RPM, I've never drove it that hard before, so I don't know if mine would do that.
Is there a way to diagnose the MAF sensor? What voltage should it read during a cold start? In Park? In Reverse? In Drive? I want to make sure it is the MAF sensor before I buy it from Dave B.

"Use the repair in this bulletin if a 2000 I30 exhibits the following symptoms: After starting the vehicle in ambient temperatures below 40° F or +5° C, the engine idle drops excessively or stops when shifting into "D" or "R" range. This incident is not A/T-related and typically occurs within the first minute after the engine is started cold. Once the engine warms, the incident no longer occurs. There is an updated ECM program available to address this incident if it should occur. Use the Service Procedure outlined in this bulletin to correct this condition. "

Wow thanks, that's the exact symptoms I am experiencing, no more, no less. Did you fix it before you sold the I? It sounds like all I need is an updated ECM program. I wonder how much the stealers would charge me for it...

I think the reprogram would help you or a new MAF + ECU reflash(+- 100$).
