Bad coils from accident???
My 2001 i30 (55k) got hit pretty hard by the front drivers side tire. It was parked, but the person that hit me hit the car hard enough to push the car sideways quite a bit.
My insurance company cut me a check for $2000 for the left fender and bumper.
6 days after being hit, my car began to stall out and the "Service Engine" light came on.
It turned out to be the ignition coils code1320 as well as the crankshaft sensor.
I know that the ignition coils are a common problem, but I was wondering if anyone could tell me if the coils (and sensor) can go bad from the impact of the accident. The mechanic was not very helpful being that we did not speak the same language.
the repairs for both the sensor and coils came to $1400, yes I know after reading this forum that I got ripped off. But if this could possibly be from the accident I would like to know so I can possibly get some of this money back.
Thanks in advance.

Nope... not in your case.
$1400 for new coils and a crankshaft sensor?!? You really took a bath on that one. You could have gotten all the parts for about $650 and then installed them yourself.
Installing the coils is easier than replacing the spark plugs and the crank sensor is one bolt and an electrical connector.

They charged me $110 ea. for the coils, and $260 for the sensor, which is only $150 at the dealer, and a lot cheaper elsewhere.
I would have gotten a second opinion elsewhere, but my car was not drivable (kept stalling) and I really needed it the next day.
I've already gone back and the manager said he would look into the huge difference in part prices.
I know I got rippped, but they did do the front brakes for free, so I guess its not that bad....or at least thats what I tell myself.
New rule: never get any work done until I come to this site first.
