what's wrong with my brakes???

what's wrong with my brakes???

i'm getting a squeling sound coming from the front brakes and when I apply the brakes it goes away until I let off it again.

2 weeks ago I changed the pads on both the front and rear, went with full ceramic, and I changed the rear rotors and resurfaced the fronts. my mechanic said the fronts were ok to resurface, still within specs.

its driving me crazy, not sure if I should change the front or not.

any idea's???????

It could be the material the pads are made out of. Some pads just make more noise than others. What brand did you get?

If it were me (and I did do this), I would have replaced the front rotors as well. "Still within specs" only means that you are going to get uneven braking distribution until the rotors get "out of spec" which will come sooner than later.

If you decided against the mechanic's advice to buy new front rotors, then you were right on the one hand but "Penny wise, pound foolish," on the other.

Rotors are inexpensive items, EXCEPT when a brake mechanic tries to sell you them. Normally they should not cost you more than $60 a pair, but brake mechanics will try to soak you for twice that much (or more).

In fact, I bought front & rear rotors from an Ebay distributor that cost me $90 for all four. I cannot remember whether I also bought the pads from him or from another seller, but, knock on wood, I put a ridiculous amount of mileage on them, and they are still breaking strongly.

Part of why I'm getting good usage out of them has to do with properly breaking in new rotors & brakes, which I'm tempted to guess was not done in your case. The break-in procedure ensures that thin layers of brake pad material are evenly deposited onto the new rotor surfaces. Without following this procedure, rotors often develop "hot spots" where a clump of pad material has been glazed onto part of the surface.

When this happens, you often get squeeky brakes as a result.

So, I would go ahead and get new front rotors now, and after the install, go through the proper break-in procedure. If you decide to do that, and are unable to find a link to the procedure, I'll supply you with one.

There's your problem. Some guys have gotten noise from the cheap satisfied brand. Ditch the satisfied and put on some NISSAN pads and shims.

This is not true at all. There is nothing wrong with resurfacing rotors at all. "Still with in specs" refers to amount of side material that allows a rotor to be resrfaced. A properly resurfaced rotor will provide the same contact surface distribution as a new rotor. They are designed to be resurfaced.

I can disagree with you on this. Nissan pads cause rotors to wrap. I had satisfied and akebono pads on my maxima and satisfied performed better than akebonas. Yet akebobas would dust a hell out of them unlike satisfied that had light dust. Since both had some noise issues, I'm not using ceramic pads for my next set up and will stick with proven Hawk HPS.

Not on 4th gens... that's a 5th gen problem.

i have those exact pads newly put on like 2000 KM ago, very little dust and also squeak with a high pitched noise when u apply the brake pedal.

nothing wrong with the pads, its the material that they are built from
