2001 i30 keyless remote unit question....

Does anyone have a pic of the main keyless control module, as installed in the trunk??

I assumed this car should have it on the passenger side wall of the trunk just like Maximas, but after 3 different remotes failed to program, I looked back there and don't see anything, as if maybe the first owner removed it.....why the heck they would do that is beyond me, though - the car is otherwise 100% original, stock and well taken care of.....

Yeah, it is located on the passenger side of the trunk. You have to remove the flap that covers up the factory jack and tool kit area. Its bolted on the trunk sub frame in between trunk lining and the quarter panel.

I had mine crap out on me a few years back.

Thanks - so what did you do, and what did it cost?

I want remote start so I'm wondering if I can just get an all-in-one installed that combines remote entry & remote start, kill 2 birds ya know.....shouldn't that work alright?

.....found this, seems to be new, and even if you're not sure the module is the problem, you can't really go wrong at THAT price

I just bought a new one for a couple hundred bucks and put it in. You could try to find a used one or you could go after market if you want.

Well i found a place that will install remote keyless entry (aftermarket) and remote start for like $260.....seems like an OK deal.....it will pop the trunk as well, just like factory, but my question is if I lock it with an aftermarket remote, will that arm the factory alarm??

Yes it will. Make sure you take out or bypass the stock alarm. So it won't.

No i WANT it to still "arm" the factory alarm.....or are you saying it will randomly go off if I just lock it with an aftermarket keyless system?

Ohhhhh.....I just thought of this - i wonder if using the remote start will set off the factory alarm....nuts......

As an aside, I went to another location of the same line of audio stores and got the newer version of the same remote start/keyless entry system for only $220. Sweet. They install it tomorrow.

I once had an Acura Vigor that had both aftermarket AND stock systems still installed... it was a mess I'll never forget.

UPDATE - not sweet at all it turned out.....that $220 turned into $325 when it was "oh i forgot to sell you this module" and "oh we had to use a different thing to learn the ignition key", etc. .....then when they called to tell me my car was ready, when i picked it up it became obvious they hadn't tested out their "work". It only successfully started it maybe 10% of the time, and after they took 2 or 3 more hours trying to figure it out, with me waiting around p|ssed off, listening to them wear out my starter, I finally told them to take it all out. I had lost all confidence in the joint by that point.

Then a guy at work told me about a minivan he had bought for his wife at one time that had remote start installed already, and they had neverending hassles with it....pretty well scared me off of the idea.

Now I think I'll just get some $89 remote keyless entry system and be done with it.
