I just installed the pioneer avic-d3 in my 01 I30. I need a dash kit badly. See pictures. It is a nice unit. The nav is very easy to use, I just need to figure out the dvd by pass.

How do you like the D3? I like the fact that it has a front slot instead of tilting LCD screen for disc input. Do the maps have good detail?

The D3 is ok! I am a little disappointed with the way its setup. Whenever you want to get directions or anything a few miles away from your house, you need to insert the nav disc. IM wondering now if there is a way I can hook up my stock 6 disc changer to the D3 and then I can always leave the navi disc in the D3. I still need to hookup the sirius box and I am looking for the steering wheel interface. I will post better pictures.....

hey,
could you post pics of the eclipse? My buddy works at best buy and
i can get the pioneer for 666 dollars lol. Funky number i know. There is also
a double din Kenwood for 400 and i could buy the GPS upgrade for it for like somethin around 200. I think that might be my summer project. I'm just gonna order the dashkit to have it for now.

oh and check this out! www.avic411.com/D3Bypass awesome tutorial for the bypass!

Steve,
the website I bought the avic d3 from was cheaper than Bestbuy. It was $586.00 shipped ups 2 day. Not too bad. I looked into the eclipse, but didnt really want to spend alot on a unit for a 7 year old car. I just hooked up into the exisiting bose speakers and it sounds good. IM sure its not the best possible hookup, but it will do for now.

No I actually hooked the blue remote wire up and tapped right into the bose system. It sounds good. I keep reading on here that this shorten the life of the bose setup! Once that happens I will rewire the car. I would like to try and use my stock clarion PN-2144u 6 disc changer somehow. Any ideas?

hm, no I don't really now about that.
But I heard it is HIGHLY recommended to get that PAC adapter, since it converts the signal coming from the HU to the amp. I don't know the terminology correctly, but the BOSE system runs of a very very weak signal coming from the head unit which the amp then amplifies to the speakers. And any normal head unit has too much of an output that will fry your speakers and amp very soon. Something along those lines.

I know I need to do this. I also need the steering wheel adapter. I was tryin to see if I can use the stock clarion 6 disc changer with the AVIC, but I think thats pushing it. I will post pictures once I get my dash kit.
