98 I30 running rough, need help

I drove the car last night and it was fine. Go out today, it starts then dies right away. On the 3rd try, I give it gas and it starts, but is idling very rough. At low speeds I can hear a chuga-chuga sound. At highway speed it seems to get a bit smoother. The check engine light is now on, but every so often, it starts flashing. I have always put premium gas in it. Any help would be greatly appreicated. Thanks.

Could the exhaust cause the problems I am having?

From the sound of it, sounds like a vacuum leak to me. Check your hoses against your vacuum diagram and see if you have a leak somewhere.

Read the engine error codes and search in the 4th Gen Maxima forum as see what other owners are saying.

Thanks for the help. The check engine light does'nt seem to have a pattern. It will start flashing out of nowhere and then stop just as suddenly. I will check the hoses and hope thats the problem. Again, thank you both.

get the ecu checked for codes, theres obviously a code there that can help diagnose the problem.

It was a bad coil pack. I forgot which number it was, if you are facing the engine it was the one on the left closer to the front. Thanks for the help.

Hey, I'm a new member and can't post threads so sorry for stealing this thread. I have a 98 I30 and I need to replace my CV Joints and I was wondering if anyone here knows what a good price for a job like that is?

Next time post in the "I'm new here but have a q" thread. But, you are looking at about 1 hour of labor for each joint plus the cost of the joint which is about $130-$150. So if you need both done about $450-$500.
