Was it hard to do the swap. Would I need a bracket kit for this to make everything look flush like yours?

I have an EU spec I30 (Nissan Maxima).
I replaced the original radio + navicontrol and the Pioneer fits fine!

No other kits needed here.
I saw a couple of pics from the US spec. completely different to my car!

looks good, but i think you would have been better off with a different hu. the pioneer isn't dual zone right? with something like an eclipse you could have navi on the lower screen and video on the top.

Its not dual zone thats right BUT the navi works without CD!
You can set ur route with CD than pull out the CD and the avic save the route.

Now put in the music/video cd.... here is pic:

Thats tight!

Very nice job! I like how you updated the pop-up screen and kept it looking stock, but I have one question - how is the screen situated in the dash when its turned off? Does it lay flat like the stock screen does?

So, what you're saying is that you've basically kept all the motor/gear parts, but replaced the screen within the lift/open mechanism?

The lift/open mechanism is stock.
We only put the new screen in + a switch to open and close.

My english is not so good, difficult to explain.

Your english sounds fine to me!

I'm just really curious as to how you did it because another guy on here and I are trying to upgrade our nav systems as well. We keep trying converter boxes so we can use the stock screen with newer navigation systems, but the stock screen has very limited capabilities. We may have to do something similar to what you did

There are already 3 people who want to replace OEM screen
I have a Nissan Maxima A33 (live in Australia). Even top range model doesn't come with NAVI and screen in Australia. But I got it off eBay (from Infiniti I35) and about to install it.

I'm primary interested in screen installation only, don't need NAVI unit as there is no maps support for Australia anyway. From the begining I wanted to use OEM lifting mechanism but relpace OEM screen (don't want to mess with RGB connection and NTSC standard) but it hard to find a screen which can be fitted to lifting mechanism. And here is a man who found it and did it!!!

RobertA32, how did you make a button for opening the screen? Is it just one control wire connected to OEM monitor or it's more complicated? Can you show what pin/pins have been used on the wiring diagram (except power as it's obviuos).

Below is the wiring diagram for Maxima QX 2000 (aka Infiniti I30 in USA). I photoshoped it just to show the relevant wiring.

+B, ACC, GND pins are related to power supply.
R, G, B, RGB SYNC, RGB Shield - video pins for RGB
NAVI-DISP, DISP-NAVI - interface between NAVI and screen (don't know it's function)
IGN ON - is it the pin we are looking for? If not, what it's function?
YS - ???? It's sheelded. I think it's related to video, but what it is for?

The screen:

Alpine TME M680

The grey box is very importent.
Pioneer Radio - grey box - Alpine TME M680.

I can say nothing about the opening mechanism.
I brought the car to the Audioshop, and the guy makes a good job.

So, how much did you pay to audioshop guy for the job and the monotir itself?

Do you have more photos of not installed in a car monitor with mechanism (kinda you posted in the last post)? I'm interested in photos of rear side as well as left (or right) side. Want to see how the monitor is attached to lifting mechanism.

It would be great to take a look at red wires on the rear side (where the are connected). As I can see there are two thick and one thin (or it's doubled?). Is it right?

In folded position is monitor screen looking up or down?

If you don'd have other photos rather than you posted here, could you please take photos of opened monitor in the car (side and rear) so I could see a mechanism. Please use flash if it's dark.

To all, if I decide to do the same with the OEM monitor I will post pictures of installation here.

I know that gray box is important as the this Alpine monitor comes with it. That's why the monitor itself so slim (most of the electronics are in the gray box).

So, Robert, do you think you can still help us put in a new screen with pics? )

Actually, I'm still working on the wires... where the hell do these +B wires come from? Also, I thought that IGN and ACC wires were responsible for powering up the unit!! But again, I can find ignition and acc wires, they both come with 12v markings, but I have no idea where to find +B, and i dont want to screw anything up...
Any suggestions?
