Tirerack recommends 16" 205/65-16 tires along with standard 17" 215/55-17 ones.

The question is, will 16s be OK with brakes and rotors, is there enough clearance?

I am shopping for winter tire/wheel set.

You can fit 16's on the A33B, yes (use the search, the simplest of terms being 'I35 16').
