TSX Retro Question

Alright,
I finally wanted to improve my light pattern and got a hold of some TSX projectors on ebay for 120 bucks and about to do the retro. Search is acting up, so please don't flame me for making a new thread.

Do I need the shrouds around the projectors? I haven't looked into it yet in detail, it might fit, just don't know how it will look like yet.

But the main question i have is this. So my Ebay headlights are fogged up after every carwash and heavy rain, so obviously they aren't sealed tight and I think there might not enough sealant left. So what sealant should I put on there? and should i put the sealant on before baking them back together? Maybe I should bake them, to get the stock sealant soft, then add the fresh sealant and then put them together.

And also a question about the washer mod. The washers go between the reflecting back part of the projector and the Lens part, correct?
Thanks for your guys' input in advance.

If you're using your eBay headlights you won't need any shrouds. It will make sense once you take the headlights apart. Ideally, once you get everything swapped around they shouldn't look (exterior appearance) any different from what you have now (provided you don't decide to paint the inner portion of the headlights or anything).

I, too, had problems with the eBay headlights fogging up. IIRC, I sealed mine up with some silicone after I dried them out and that seemed to take care of the problem. Some don't like to use silicone, and prefer to use butyl rubber to seal the headlights (closer to the sealant used in headlights).

And you have the general idea of the modded TSX projector correct.

What D2S bulbs are you using? I recommend Philips 85122+ if you haven't bought them yet.

i just thought about getting ebay one's in 6000k. Are those that much better? I didn't really run into any problems so far... my fogs are 6000k too, will it look ridiculous if they mismatch? I guess if I do the washer mod as you did, the cutoff will give the illusion of the blue right?

aaaaaaand what's the best source for the Phillips'? I think $200 is just a tad bit expensive for some light bulbs... that's what HIDplanet is selling them for

retrofit source on ebay usually sells 85122+ for like 50 bucks. They're brighter, and the quality is better for Philips bulbs instead of aftermarket.

Once you see the output of the 85122+ vs aftermarket 6000K you'll understand why. I was running 6000K for 3 years and when I changed I never looked back, the yellow color really helps in rain and snow. Oh and I bought mine on eBay for ~$65 shipped.

Yeah 85122+ are bright, but they look very yellow, at least if used in a non-colormodded projector. I've used some of those generic 6000K D2S bulbs myself and man are they dim. Dim and outrageously blue.

Myself, I went for a compromise and got some ~5000K GE D2S bulbs that I am very satisfied with.
