Brake Pads

Hey. I have 02 i35 and I brought nice ceramic brake pads for about $60, but they make squeking noise.

I read here that best thing to do is get OEM pads

My rotors are kinda bad too. So
should i get any rotors or OEM too? You think I should go with oem brake pads?

I THINK that's normal of ceramics...I have ceramics on too and at first they used to squeak every time I was on the brakes, but now they only do so once when I brake for the first time in the mornings.

The are all kinds of threads on which pads and which rotors to use. Look in the 5th gen forum if you want to read more. Everybody has an opinion.

First, my personal opinion is to only put new pads on brand new or freshly turned rotors. Only one time I tried to put pads on old rear rotors and they never stopped making noise.

I'm not super hard on my brakes. On my i35 I just used wagner thermoquiet and autozone rotors. They've been fine and don't make any noise. Either get new brake hardware or make sure they are still in good shape.

Other people drive differently so they would have different opinions.

my brother and just did brake jobs on both of our cars i30 and 98 maxi ... either way any time i do pads i also switch rotors ... never have used drilled and slotted but understand they circulate gases away from the pads better but because there is less metal do not absord as much heat as a solid rotor would ... were the happy meduim lies i dont kno ... back to the pads we used axxis brake pads i think the company is out of australia they are a kevlar ceramic blend they are very dusty can be heard touching without any radio but do not squeak they are amazing pads the bit on them is intense. check them out whoever is looking for brake pads !

idk how but i ****ed up one of my rotors last night
my pads were rubbing on my rotor for a while since we were hitting speeds off well over 100 yesterday all day and last night when we were goin for a final run i notice a strong smell so we pulled in to a lot and next thing you know theres ALOT of smoke coming from behind my rear wheel and sure enough it was my pad

we "fixed" the problem but idk for how much longer it will stay "fixed"

and even worse since its bin real humid in dallas n real hot with my dumbass pushing the car hard there was also alot of white smoke coming from my exhaust for a while..they said i was burning oil since i didnt let the car cool off so off to walmart we go and buy a qt of oil and drop it in and no more smoke or nasty smell but now im scared of even driving the car for the fear of something goin really wrong
