Planning next upgrade (sub)

Hey, I decided it's time for my next upgrade. Instead of buying basslink (I read that they fail after a year), I decided to put one together.

So here is what I found, let me know if its a good choice.

Sub enclosure 8"
http://www.amazon.com/Single-Subwoof...=1ZDRN2IAM32C5

Infinity Sub
http://www.amazon.com/Infinity-Refer...=1ZDRN2IAM32C5

Sound Ordnance M2100
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-02Azbd6...ce-M-2100.html

Let me know what you think, also please let me know what good wiring kit and the best way to mount the enclosure to my trunk. Thanks

that amp is a little weak. And you can find something much nicer than that infinity sub.

How much money are you looking to spend? What type of bass do you like? really tight, or do you like the low's? I'd much rather see you research what you want, than buy something quickly and be unsatisfied with it. It took me 3 setups to find what I was happy with (sadly I went deaf a few months after I bought my last setup)

I don't really want to spend over $200 on the whole system.

I am not looking for too loud bass. My priority is clear sound. With the sub, I am planning to get 4 infinity speakers and two infinity tweeters to change everything to infinity.

You think the sound will be not loud enough? I had bazooka tube in my previous car and bass was loud enough for me. Also, what do you mean by "really tight or the lows"? whats the difference? if tight is the quality then definately quality over volume. But I want it to be loud enough for me, not for other cars etc.

Generically speaking, tight is sealed enclosures, and ported will get you the low's.
Think like rock, techno, etc for sealed and ported for heavy bass. But a quality built ported enclosure will get you both.

That amp is a little weak. 200watts at 4 ohms bridged, and the sub is 250watt rms (peak isnt stated in the link).

So the enclosure that I showed you, is it tight sealed or ported?
I am more in for techno and rap. Like I said before, I used bazooka tube which I think was 6" and it was pretty good. Do you think that this setup will be quieter than bazooka tube?

You think sub would be fine, but I should get another amp?

O, are you looking to compete with the system?
Because 200 watts with that sub will make more than enough bass for ya. If you need help pm me....

Thanks bro, you think I got good choice there?

Couple more questions, I'll start from buying enclosure,

I found this one on ebay for 19.99, you think its good enough?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/8-Single-Car...item4cf97b2d86

Also, I wanted to mount my amp where stock amp is located, so can I mount the sound ordnance upside down?

I would measure under there so you know what youre working with. I actually mounted mine on the drivers side. I would definitely get a 10 or 12. I made the mistake of buying a 8, and it just wasn't enough. I'm running a 10 with about 150 to 200 watts and it is plento o bass.

I just don't want to take a lot of trunk space and I am sure 8 will be enough for me. Its just that the enclosure I found is 10 inch deep in the bottom and I need one about 6inch mounting depth, I don't want the enclosure to take extra 4 inch, but can't find anything else

I used to have a bazooka tube in my old 87 supra. It sounded great in the supra, but when I got my first 96 max and put the tube in there it sounded like crap. I could barely hear it. Unless you plan on putting the sub in the cabin, opt for a larger more powerful setup.

Say a 500watt RMS 10 or 12

Youre going down the same road I did. Had the 8, then I heard a 10 and realized it wasn't enough....sold the 8 and got a 10

Never said to get 2 12's, I was just showing you my setup. The point I was trying to get across is with one 8 in the trunk IMHO I dont think it will be much at all. I could see settling for an 8" L7 or FI, DC, SA, etc, etc. But thats gonna be pretty weak.

I see. Well, i'll sell it or something if it will be quiet. Would it sound good if i would point the side of enclosure with speaker towards a wall in the trunk?

You want atleast a 10 inch sub, (I would personally do a 12) and you should run more RMS in the amplifier than the sub is rated for. Its hard to kill a subwoofer with too much power, its easy to kill a subwoofer with too little because the output levels that you might reach with the gain **** are in fact clipping the signal (distortion) which overheats the amplifier and the voice coil of the subwoofer. The larger the subwoofer the better it sounds usually.

I recommend the shallow mount 12 inch subwoofers if you must compromise on space. they take about the same footprint as an 8-10 inch sub. Another advantage of a larger sub is they require less power to reach the same volume and can hit low notes much easier. That is because they are more efficient. I have owned several infinity subwoofers and I honestly think they are junk.

Joeker, at first you said "Because 200 watts with that sub will make more than enough bass for ya", so it won't?

Thanks guys, but I already ordered that enclosure and like I said earlier, the 8" sub gets great ratings, all of them 5 out of 5 on amazon, so we'll see. Also I think i will remove the bose sub, so that there will be hole in the rear deck, so that 8" sub will be louder

Distortion kills speakers, not watts. Everyone should get that straight first! 200 watts is enough for one 8!

For real, 200 watts is gonna do the job. Go with what you have. Everyone has their own opinion, dont overthink it.

Thanks, I just remembered a long time ago friend of mine had 2 10s or 12s in his trunk and it sounded crappy because all you could hear was the bass, later he had to disconnect one of the speakers and use one. It still sounded crappy. If the system will sound too quiet, I will remove the stock subwoofer from rear deck, if still would be quiet, I will remove the stock sub assembly. That should give a good entrance for the bass sound into interior.

The other question I had is, can I put the sub enclosure so that the subwoofer side will face the side of the trunk (where first aid kit is) - Yes Joeker, there is first aid kit

After doing some research, it seems to me that to get the loudest and best sound from 8" enclosure is to put it so that the speaker facing the wall (in my case facing first aid kit on that wall)

That's where I found it

tigersharkdude,
quick question for you, on the back of our headunits ,xr810, there is blue (white stripe) wire, it says to the remote lead of other equipment of automatic antenna (200 mA max), is that where I connect remote wire for amp? its less than 200 mA?

my boy has 4 8's in a sedan, its an 08 civic si. the bass is punchy as ****, but not loud enough for him.

a slot ported box will get you the best bass response.

a sealed box will get you tight, accurate bass, but you will lack in certain frequencies...esp low ones, and you may distort the sub by trying to turn more bass up to hear the lack of.

more often that not, setups are made to sound best with the subs facing the trunk lid. the bass can sort of bounce off the trunk and back forward to your ears.

that magnet on that sub looks ginormous...hope it fits in whatever box you go with. if you do go with that sub, do get a bigger amp. something that can push out like 400w rms @ 4 ohms.

one more question, I was looking at 4 channel amps and I was wondering, is it worth amplifying four door speakers and twitters in a car?

It depends on how much money you want to put in your stereo. Upgrade to a component setup in the front, and get better speakers for the rear. If you still arent happy then you can amp the interior speakers. Before I lost my hearing my stereo sounded great with an infinity kappa component set in the front and matching speakers in the rear deck. No amp needed

Im completely deaf. I cant hear anything. And yes, i am allowed to drive. When you lose one of your senses, the others will try to pickup for it. IE, I may not be able to hear but my sight is great, I am extremely aware of my surrondings. I can also smell very good, kind of random but its weird I can smell things that are way off, like Ill say "skunk", nobody smells anything and then like a minute later all of the windows go up

Also, I will say that I dont really like driving by myself since I cant hear, Ive always had this fear of something mechanical breaking and not hearing it. But, my sense of touch/feel is also really good. Like I can feel a very light "miss" in my steering wheel. No mechanic so far has been able to feel it.
