WTB 2003 Maxima (picky, informed, patient buyer) - LONG

Hello (again) all. I am considering coming back into the Maxima family (former 2k 5spd owner). This all stems from talking my GF into the purchase of a 2003 GLE last November. She LOVES the car and on driving it I realize that I truly miss the Maxima for myself! I currently drive a Subaru Legacy GT 5spd wagon. While the Suby is an EXCELLENT car it does have its drawbacks and I am finding myself daydreaming about becoming a 2-vehicle guy (car and motorcycle). The 2003 Maxima fits all my needs quite well - powerful, moderately frugal, roomy, and comfortable.

Sounds like I have made up my mind eh? Well, not quite. You see, there is this thing out there called a G35. I have been drooling over these cars for some time. With an '05 (my favorite, affordable year) within my afford-ability sphere I need to find the perfect Maxima to sway the vote*. The perfect Max for me would be:
  • A 2003 model year. No 2002s or eariler (I had a 2000 Maxy for 2.5 years and the 2003 includes most of the fixes for 02) and no newer Maxys (can't STAND the new design despite being impressed with the pioneering efforts of folks like redlinemax for trying to correct the problem) - so 2003 or no Max at all
  • I still haven't decided on the transmission. The 4-spd that's in the 5th gens would be just OK but I have been driving manuals for the past 12 years and am potentially looking for a break That said I think I could go either way with the 6spd just edging out the automagic. But I know they will be harder to find
  • Fully optioned only. Navi not desired (I have my own plans for this). Specifically I want heated seats/wheel, memory seats, sunroof, trac. control (everything lol)
  • Non-smoker!
  • Light modifications only. I would want to put the Stillen classic Aero kit on, so that would be a bonus but I am really not looking into delving into alot of engine mods (if I were I would keep the Suby and build it up and skip the bike - a 400hp AWD wagon is the ULTIMATE sleeper - and yes, the Suby already hauls *****)
  • Reasonable mileage 15-20k/year, maybe a bit more, but hoping to stay under under 80k
  • No tan interiors, Black, Platinum Silver, Polished Titanium (no Sheer - thats my GFs color and that would be so wrong...), Majestic Blue, or Grey Lustre. I think Grey Lustre with Grey interior would be my first choice with Platinum (still called Sterling Mist?) being a close second.

Yeah, I know, picky. But I MUCH prefer working with an fellow Maxy enthusiast then trying to source through the other online outlets (though I have been hitting Autotrader pretty hard lately). To be perfectly honest, I am in the good position of not needing to purchase anything at this time - just the want to change it up (again). So... if the perfect Max isn't out there right now I will wait - or break down and get the G35 (if I must - lol)

I am located in Southern Indiana but have no problem traveling pretty far for the right car. I will refrain from bumping this ***** very often.

Thanks for indulging me!

(*)Why not just get the G35? Its all $$$ to be honest. An 03 Maxy should be under 16k or better and the G35 is around 22-25 for what I want. Thats the difference that would easily cover the Hayabusa I have been eyeing

Good luck, you want the exact same car I do and let me tell you...it's no easy find! BTW, how much are you looking to spend?

Thanks, and GL to you as well - I read your post a few days ago

If SilverSleeper's Maxy was any color but the sheer silver I would have contacted him already. His is being offered at $15.5 currently and for what he's got, its worth it.

So to answer, I would love to get a sweetheart of a deal on one, but realistically looking at $15-16k for a pristine example, maybe a bit less for higher mileage/wear.

My girl paid 16k for a GLE, no Meridian pkg, last Nov with 52k on the clock.

Autotrader has a few listed that I have saved, but here's one of them

I know this isn't exactly what you're looking for but I thought I might throw it out here anyway. I mean , it will only waste 10 seconds of your time anyway right

2002 6spd black on black, havent had any mechanical issues or anything besides regular maintenance. 114k miles, intake, tint, exhaust, suspension, cosmetic mods. got all the options, some stereo gear
for the down low price of $11.4k with factory 17s (more money for a bike eh?)

It's never a waste of time to look at a tasty Max

That said, yeah...not quite what I want. If there is one thing that I will hold firm to its the year. Your ride is very well done, but I am also looking forward to making my "own" Maxy - hence the light mods only requirement.

Sorry if I came off in my OP as being a d*ck. Thanks for taking the time to help me out!

Polished Titanium > Sterling Mist.

Also, have a good time trying to find traction control in a 6MT. I'm kidding, since i know you know you were referring if you did find an AT, you would want TC.

Very nice ride and quite tempting. Not to give up a great opportunity, but has iyzmi seen this? I only ask because he was specifically looking for a black 6spd/HLSD.

6spds have traction control built right in, even without the coveted HLSD...

It's called your foot

Thanks for the heads-up on the Polished Titanium - I knew I had forgotten one shade. Needs to be added to the list

I'm not sure honestly. I haven't seen his post, but it's basically up for whom ever wants it bad enough first. Let me know if you're interested, or if you see him, let him know as well.

Thanks

Yeah, I just saw his thread. Too bad he's in NC, too far and 84k is a bit steeper of a mileage than what I was looking for. Maybe if it was like $13k and he lived closer. Oh well, I've actually decided to start looking for a nice black on black 99 because it would be so much cheaper and I'd have lots of money to spare on mods.

Wow, a bidding war in my post and I am not even involved!!!

If I were in the market for a 2k2 vs. a 99 I would consider this strongly...that 3.5L VQ is tough to beat...

lol, your getting thread jacked...
Sorry but 113k miles is a bit higher than what I was looking for and it would take like another 1.5k to drive it up here from GA. BTW, I wouldn't have the time or the opportunity to drive down their to pick it up or even meet half way so even if you desperetly wanted to sell it to me, you'd be making a trip up to WI...lol.

Anyways, I'm currently trying to decide which of the 2 cheaper years I want in my 4th gen vs 5.0gen thread so I'm trying to focus on soaking up all the knowledge I can about those for now.

I think more emissions stuff is only for the cali spec ones, not fed spec and since I don't live in cali it doesn't effect me.

Yes, I am now a raging ball of jealousy and thanks to that I am off to buy a Honduh...
like right now...
at 12:30 in the AM...

Seriously, it's hard to get jealous when you already have a pretty sweet ride. I will get jealous when (and if) I get the new Maxy and then start to look at all the other very well set-up rides on here
