FS 97 SE 5 speed Albany NY
Up for sale is my 5 speed 1997 blue max. It would be a great project or parts car.
The good:
-New Fidanza light weight flywheel
-New Exedy stage 1 clutch
-Full tan leather interior that is in excellent condition considering its age, heated seats but they are not hooked up, wiring is all there although i think one or both of the switches are broken
-8k HIDs
-Brand new passenger side drive axle
-Sound system is ok, crappy stock speakers, single 12 inch sub and small amp, nothing special, flip out jensen head unit although i cant get it to play dvds
-Body has almost no rust except for a rear section that was side swiped
-Red/Clear tails, trunk lid is black for some reason, black turn signals
-All four brakes have re-manufactured calipers, drilled slotted rotors, pads still have wear on them
-New battery
-New clutch slave cylinder, master cylinder and full ss line running between both
-New OE starter from Nissan dealer
-New lower control arms, balljoints, outer tie rod ends, front strut assemblies new, rear strut assemblies in good condition
-Brand new hood struts
The bad:
-204k miles
-Has a starting issue, its starts usually on the second or third try but sometimes it takes several tries. I believe its attributed to the REF crankshaft position sensor wiring.
-Has an exhaust leak in the stock y pipe and the muffler is beginning to deteriorate. Rest of the exhaust looks fine
-O2 sensor heater circuit malfunction check engine code
-Most likely needs a new transmission, trans is currently locked out of first thru fourth, fifth and reverse when i let out on the clutch while giving it gas the engine dies, the engine also dies (like instantly stalls) when the clutch is let out in neutral, im not sure but its possible this trans is done because I used gl5 gear oil instead of gl4. The trans was working fine for a day or two after i replaced the passenger side drive axle and put in new gear oil. Then one morning I was locked out of gears.
-Drivers side axle works fine but its time for new boots or else it will end up failing like the passenger side one did
-Blower motor only works on the 4 setting
-AC seems to work, but not that well. It had a recharge just before I bought it and this spring it seems to not be getting very cold, it needs service of some sort
-ABS lines are clipped, ABS light will probably never go away
-Antenna mast is broken/missing, although i still hear the motor run every time I turn the car on or off
-The hood is messed up, opens and shuts fine though
-Needs new tires
-The car is immobilized, buyer will have to deal with picking it up and towing it/transporting it
Its a great car and I have full faith it will run for a long time to come, its a shame to see it go with all the work I've put into making it a not riced out piece of crap but with all the constant down time and huge holes burned in my pockets I can't entertain this hobby anymore, I'm going to be looking for a reliable low mileage fourth or fifth gen that doesn't need work and take out a loan to replace this max and leave my next maxima stock. Only need to sell this maxima to get down payment money so I'm not looking for a huge amount here. While I know the car still needs a bit of work, a lot of the expensive stuff has been taken care of. This car will cost a lot more in down time than in parts that it needs. I knew this car had potential from the day I bought it. Hopefully an org member out there with a garage and some spare time/resources can finish reviving this demon.
Looking for $800 OBO
I foolishly/impatiently bought the car for $1900 and dumped at least 3 grand into it
