Looking for 4/5 gen Max. DC/MD/VA Only. Budget $5k

Sold my daily driver and need to get into something else. Looking to buy a 4th(98-99) or 5th gen under 140k miles.

SE/GLE
No preference for transmission.

Just looking for a clean car modded/unmodded.

Budget $5k, looking to stick to this price, will go up a little if need be.

Thanks,
Sean

you will have no problems getting a clean 4th gen for at or under 3 grand. The low mileage requirement, however......the NEWEST 4th gen is a 99. Industry average is 15k miles per year...so industry average on the 99 would be around 170K.

The VQ30 engine in the 4th gen will last a LONG time. Folks are buying these cars with over 220K on the odometer and going much further!

Best chance of lower mileage is with the 5th gen...00-01 have the VQ30DE-K (a bit improved, with more HP and variable intake), 02 and 03 have the VQ35, more power obviously, but some of these tend to burn oil.

If you're looking for another DD, I would personally go with a 4th gen (97-99) due to the (imo) better styling and features than 95/96. Some folks will tell you to stay away from 99 since it can have issues (NATS, the Nissan immobilizer system, debuted on the 99. Also, some 99s have California emissions, which is more restrictive with aftermarket exhaust systems... I have a 99 and love it, personally.

Either way, whatever you decide to do, research it and don't overpay. 5grand is overpaying on a stock 4th gen...

Thanks, I used to have a 98 and loved it, hence why I'm back here. I am more flexible with the mileage so a little higher mileage shouldn't make too much of a difference.

Got tired of my altima and am looking for a DD I can mod and have a little bit of fun in

our 98 SE 5spd is back from PHoenix so a little closer to you now but still pretty far away in Chicago ...not sure you want to venture that far away...

was this really necessary, you are talking to a member that has been here since 04, with 98SE in his SN, i think he knows all this already.

nah, probably not. HOWEVER, 5K for a 4th gen, come on! i wanted to make sure he knew that he could get TWO good 4th gens @ that price.

And I think I wrote that while on the mobile view, which doesn't show the user info.

5K for a 5th gen sounds spot on thou. Im sure if he was looking for a 4th gen only he would have lowered that budget to the 3s or less.

Thanks guys. The only reason I put 5k up there is because I'm considering 5th gens as well. Appreciate it!
