1992 Maxima SE for sale - a very special restoration project car
We have decided to sell our beloved Maxima, a project car we are very attached to, but a time has come to make room in the garage. We are therefore looking for a dedicated enthusiast who would be interested in owning this car and continue to keep it up. Please review the description below and, if interested, contact us with an offer.

SPECS:
The car is a 1992 model year Maxima SE, built on 1 August 1991. The car is after a recent restoration inside and out. We have done some tasteful upgrades to the body, including a Stillen body kit (front lip spoiler, side skirts, rear valance, fiberglass rear wing with LED brake light). The exterior has been completely restored and expertly repainted using the original shade of sandy beige metallic. The inside is after a complete restoration as well, including carpeting, headliner and custom genuine leather seats. An Alpine audio with an iPod connection in the glovebox, and Blaupunkt speakers were installed.
Mechanically, the car has the original engine and transmission with 150,058 miles as of the date of this ad (all highway miles). The transmission is a 5-speed manual. The engine is the VE30DE, a DOHC 24-valve 3.0 liter V6, which makes 190 HP. For more details, refer to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nissan_VE_engine. The engine was refreshed when we bought the car at 56000 miles. We use a lightweight Stillen flywheel and a Centerforce performance clutch (we on the second such clutch since we owned the car).
OWNERSHIP AND MAINTENANCE HISTORY:
1.- We have owned this car since 1997. We acquired the car with 56,000 miles and drove it for some 80000 miles.
2.- The car has been maintained exclusively at the local Nissan dealer (Nissan of Slidell, see references below for contacts).
3.- We believe in old-school maintenance: oil changes every 3000-5000 miles using synthetic oils; transmission oil, coolant and brake fluid changes at prescribed intervals. Everything is completely documented. We have a thick binder with every receipt for work we ever had done on the car.
4.- When we acquired the car, the engine was taken out and freshened up. The heads were taken off and sent to be re-machined. Valves were re-seated and the variable-valve timing sprockets replaced. Head gaskets were replaced.
5.- All fluids have been replaced religiously at regular intervals with the best-quality products available
6.- The restoration started about 4 years ago. The engine was again taken out, valves re-seated and variable-timing sprockets serviced. All suspension parts, except the springs, were replaced. Exhaust was replaced. The interior was completely redone (genuine leather seats, headliner, side panels, carpeting). The body exterior was completely restored and repainted.
7.- We use 215/60 ZR15 Yokohama tires, mounted on the original aluminum wheels. The wheels are the only part of the car that has not been restored yet.
8.- AC recently replaced.

The drivetrain is original to the car. Suspension parts have all been replaced except springs.
As for price, the KBB is $1,720 for a Maxima SE with 140K miles. We have seen 1992 Maximas for sale on the web for $1000 to $5000. These are vehicles in more or less original shape, unrestored, with the expected amount of body and mechanical glitches appropriate for their age.
Obviously in this case, one cannot go by the KBB valuation. We are not looking to recover the money we spent on this restoration over the past few years, but at the same time we would like the buyer to recognize the fact that this is a special car. Maybe one of a kind.
What do you think a car like this is worth?

Very clean pics
Have same questions about rad support & usual areas of 3rd gen rust buildup (i.e. rear quarter panels, door jams)? And engine bay pics (any rusting in bay - around strut housing)?

Rust questions
The car is rust free. It is a Southern car and it never saw snow/salt. When we did the body restoration, we asked the body shop to report to us and repair any rusted areas they would have found.
Please post your email address or send me an email and I will ask my wife to take some pictures of the engine bay and email them. rkolarsky@yahoo.com

This is a truly gorgeous car. It warms my heart to see such a ridiculously clean and meticulously restored VE-5.
Unfortunately the market for these cars is dwindling, hopefully you will find the right buyer. If I didn't just pick up my 2003 I would be ALL over this car. I do like my newer maxima but the driving characteristics do not compare to a good running and driving third gen. This would be a brilliant daily driver, though I would probably spend more time waxing it than driving it
I would start the price high and get ready for the low balling. Hopefully you'll get what you want out of it, but sadly most third gen owners will never get back the time, energy, and love they put into their cars.
Good luck to you and best wishes.
Bump for the cleanest third I've seen in years! Someone please grab this!

that was our goal when we started this project. After the body restoration, we took the car for an oil change to the local Nissan dealership and people (customers) were coming out of the showroom to look at this car, forgetting for a moment they were there to buy a new 2012 one
Unfortunately, it is time to part with it because I do a great deal of work away from home, and it is a problem maintaining 4 cars
