introductions, new to MAximas *w/ pics*
hey everyone. my name is Brendan, just so you know. anyway; two days ago i purchased a 1994 Nissan Maxima GXE. my next project. the last one was cut short by an accident involving a stupid old lady in an ex-cop car Ford Crown Vic. it was my pride and joy, a fully built turbocharged Saturn SC2 that i had spent two years gathering parts and building the engine. she was due to get painted in the spring.
anyway, i only paid $500 for it so i figured what the hell. she has working cold a/c (not that that matters so much with winter coming up), 168k on the clock, auto (at least till next spring). besides the obvious oxidization of the paint and the poor condition of the alloys the body itself is in great shape. some minor rust in the jambs, nothing i cant fix in an afternoon. no dents or anything whatsoever, really straight body. i have already started working on a plans list for this car, starting with paint and new wheels in the spring (over winter i wont do anything but save money), then the ever-present system, and some suspension stuff. but most of all im interested in power, so hopefully the vg30e delivers.
thats basically it. i just wanted to introduce myself and my new project. i look forward to being on this board.

Welcome to the org..
We are currently going through a post virus infection on our server machine,so be patient with the current status of the 3rd generation stickies links(most of thelinks are dead now)
The vg is a tried and true workhorse of the nissan family of engines, many happy miles can be achieved by simply practicing regular maintinance, and most important,a new timing belt.
The biggest issue with your particular model is the automatic transmission, they are prone to fail in the 120k to 150k area of mileage, but if you read some of the current threads on the first page of the 3rd gen forum, you find some useful info on how to hopefully extend the life of your vg auto..(i.e. trans cooler)
Or if you are very mechanically inclined, you can swap out your automatic for a manual 5 speed transmission..
The best bolt on "bang for your buck" horsepower mod will be the warpspeed y-pipe,along with an under drive pulley/and various suspension upgrades.

i noticed that. i was trying to follow the links and half of em took me to an unrelated thread, the other half told me i didn't have privilages to view it.
anyway i definitely plan to do a manual swap and have the engine rebuilt next summer. from there i would take it one of two directions: either bolt-ons, JWT cams and ECU, and a wet 75 shot -or- a turbo setup using salvage yard manifolds and such, but obviously stuff like turbo components (wastegate, FMIC, BOV, and so on) would be new. anyway it depends how patient i am in saving money, and any unexpected expenses.
besides warpspeed and cattman, are there any sites that sell Nissan-specific parts, preferably a Nissan-only retailer?
thanx for the welcome!

For exhaust not much beyond Cattman and Warpspeed. For suspension parts (struts, springs) many have used shox.com. For really nice suspension parts (braces, links) blehmco.com.
Oh and welcome.
