1997 SE 5spd Nightshots

Alright I got my tripod today in the mail and figured I'd go take some night shots. Obviously it was very dark and cold so I didn't spend a whole lot of time playing with the tripod tonight and I plan on taking more this weekend.

Also for those who care I used a Nikon D40, 18-55mm kit lens, Manfrotto 190XPROB legs with 486RC2 head. Thanks again Phuong for you help with the tripod selection process. Also I need a Lens cleaning kit and a drop, you'll see why...

Here are 3 HDR's I took this weekend. I think they might need some more tweaking, but I have other stuff going on and I'm trying to edit some Philly Auto Show pics. comments and criticism please!

What are you using to create your HDRs? Your pics look very washed out and hazy. If you aren't using Photomatix, I recommend you google it and download the free trial, its very good. Also if you post up the originals, I'd be willing to take a crack at making an HDR out of them. I'm a D40 user too

P.S. Love the Sage Mist. My dad's Max is a '97 Sage Mist SE with a 5spd

What happened to the max? Also whats the deal with the 300zx? turbo/na? year? price? I might be interested, I wanna stay in the nissan family if I get something new...

Thanks for the sage mist love guys. I love the color too, it looks really good and hides the dirtyness that this has to deal with while I'm in college away from it. As far as future plans go, I don't know what I'm doing. I'm not buying anything till I find out if I'm keeping this or not. If I do I want coilovers, tint, RSB, and a 2nd pair of SE rims to repaint and get nice tires. Then I think I'll call it done or close to it. If I move to something else it'll be a cheap easy to mod and maintain car that can handle.

Haha thats weird, thats this exact car. This is/was my dad's car, he "gave" it to me and got a 07 TSX 6spd, thats fun to drive too.

I used Merge to HDR in PS3, which I know sucks, but I just wanted to get quick results and check out how they looked. I'm going to do it a better way in PS3 soon hopefully. I've been thinking about photomatix, I just can't stand that watermark and don't wanna pay for a full version either. So if you know a place I could get it for nothing, I'd love to hear about it.

You might want to check out thephotoforum.com, they might be able to help you with that copy of photomatix. It's also a pretty cool place and very helpful with any questions you might have.

In the words of MrGone, your HDR is only to compensate for the lack of a good camera.

But, I give you props, nice pictures. You can tell when someone has had photo schooling.

How are your dealings with Manfrotto products? I used one of their remote mount tripods once and it kicked ***. Took pictures from outside the car while moving.

Haha I saw that thread, kinda ridiculous. I mean he's right that HDR is a way to compensate since it captures more, but whatever, i'll do it anyway. And I have no problem admitting that my D40 isn't the ****, cause it's not. It's a cool technique and a lot of fun to play with so whatever, to each his own.

I don't have any photo schooling right now. I plan on taking courses next year, but so far I'm self taught with the D40, it's a LOT of fun. I've taken courses in PS though if that counts

As far as Manfrotto goes, I love the tripod. I got it for 210 dollars on Amazon, and its awesome. It's very very versatile. I'll take pics of it and all its cool shapes in a little bit and upload them for you. Honestly I was skeptical about paying that much for a tripod at first, but I love it and don't regret it at all.

Thanks man, on a side note, I think you need those Mazda rims back. They looked awesome on your car.

Thanks, I'm on fredmiranda.com right now, and it's a pretty good forum. I'm just kinda looking at pics and techniques right now and thats it.

Sure, it makes a crappier camera take better shots, but you cant tell me that the top of the line cameras dont use it either...

No schooling? I give you mad props. Ive taken 4 years of photo and your pictures look better than half the crap Ive seen in my classes as far as aesthetics and the elements and principles.

That arm kit is what I used to shoot this:

haha **** that looks awesome. Thanks again for the props man, how much did that arm kit cost you? I have 190XPROB legs and 486RC2 head. Here's a link to the folder of the pics I just took. http://s19.photobucket.com/albums/b177/markd248/Tripod/

To give you a reference the kid is 5' 10" and santa is 8' tall, so I think it gets to about 5' 6" or so. And I threw the notebook in there to give you a feel for it's size.

Phew now that is a bad *** well built tripod. I actually only borrowed it from my photo teacher for a few days, he uses it a lot for his mini, and sunshinemini's(florida mini club). I think they retail for about $200 though.

haha damn. Next time I'm home I'm going to try and do that shot with my tripod. I would definitely recommend the set up i have if you are looking for one. I got it from Adorama on Amazon.

Also I've spent some time touching up my HDR's and I'll post the edited ones soon hopefully.
