225s are way narrow on an 8.5" wide rim. That's the same size that came on our stock wheels, which are 7" wide.
I run 235/245 on my 8" wide rims.
I don't care for the rims either, personally. I do like the color of the car, though.

I have 225's on my 8.5's and don't have any problems at all.
And I get better gas milage than my 245's did. Surprisingly enough. +2mpg on average, FTW.

why is this so difficult, people?
1. Will you have problems with 225s on a 8.5" rim? NO. They are within spec.
2. What is the point of buying a wider rim? So you can use wider tires. Otherwise just buy a 7" wide rims and save some weight and money if you're just gonna use skinny stock-sized tires.
3. What is the point of wider tires? To give you more traction (except in the snow, of course).
4. What is the point of more traction? Well...do I really need to explain?
I will take your point about possible mileage gains due to reduced rolling friction. But 2mpg is a stretch. The physics of it simply don't add up, assuming you are using the same brand/model of tire and the rolling diameter is the same, tire pressures, etc. My mileage is exactly the same with my 225 snow tires and my 245 track tires.
Besides, with those heavy chrome rims, you're actually hurting your mileage compared to a lighter wheel. And BTW, narrower wheels are lighter than wider ones, assuming same brand/model.

I'll be the first to admit most rims look better on a lowered car. I was just giving you a hard time since you said that everyone was all up on your jock after you lowered it.

You spend way too much time on the internet.
You're WAY too worked up over something that you have no control over.
I use 225's up front to get my camber set perfect so that my wheels are flush with the fenders, and I can still drive.
You, sir... need to quit drinking caffeine, I guess.
Good lord.
FYI, I don't have chrome wheels.

Like irish said why buy wider rims with no intent of taking advantage of it

The width of the tire DOES have something to do with how low I am at any given time. A 245/35/20 is adds a considerable amount of meat that a 225/35 doesn't. With a 245, I had to add some negative camber to actually drive it without rubbing.
With a 225, I can adjust back accordingly.
Jesus, this forum is full of keyboard commandos.
Need I post pictures and specs?

And what offset are your wheels? Width? There are SO many more degrees of change in there. Just because you think your wheels fit flush, doesn't mean they do.
I don't track my car, I just drive it.
Plain and ****ing simple.

camber is the angle of the wheel based of the centerline
because it is based of of the CENTERLINE, width doesnt matter
the reason you think the width has something to do with height is because the second number in a tiresize is a RATIO so with that constant, a larger width will mean that the sidewall is also taller
here is a good place to play with tire sizes

well maybe loud3 should just raise the car a little or roll the fenders and put on a correct size tire...stretching tires in general is fawking retarded...
Or maybe go down in size on the rim...
