some old hotness

some of these pics are really bad, and some really good. i am getting some more tommorow.

any way...

'79 280zx 2+2 5 spd GL trim with all the options you wanted and doesent have the options you dont want (sun roof, t tops....they leak) turbo wasnt an option in '79. this car was $12k brand new

before

after

no mods, no bumper. car sits low because springs are shot, its a work in progress.

acually it has a R-200 rear end with a 4.11:1 gear set and possibly a factory competition transmission. 80mph in 5th gear is about 4.5 grand on the tach. i just discoverd this earlier today, i am gonna check it out later.

Looks pretty straight, never was a fan of the 2+2 cars but its nice to see a s130 that is fairly complete.

Sounds like you do have 4.11's or 4.08's in your car. My s14 has 4.08's and i hate them.

pretty sure its the 4.11i pulled the speedo sprocket and it was red, theyre color coded. i need to check the transmission stamp to see what it really is. if its truly a factory competition tranny then i best get it to the shop quick because its got some problems.
theres a calculator on the net, i'll try and find it, and its all in approximation but the only combination that puts me at the revs and speed i am getting is the 4.11 gear and the special tranny.

i've sourced a new rear bumper too i am just trying bit by bit to pull it from the car at the yard, only problem is they have it held up by the bumper because it has no wheels on it.

ninja edit:
heres the link

i dont think old z's came with 4.11's they usually got swapped from newer cars so you input it manually in the diff section. if you knew all your ratios you could use it for any car. 32010-N3220 to N3222 show similar revs to my car with a 4.11 the rest of it doesent come close. it gets good milage in town but its not so much on the highway

s30 (240-280z) bumpers wont work on s130 (280zx) cars as far as i know. Of course without allot of work.

My aunt had a blue 1983 280zx with the clear light covers back in the 80's. She bought it brand new. Man, that was a sweet car. I ve never noticed the difference in the roof lines until I saw yours. My aunt didnt have a 2+2 so I figured they all looked alike. I see the 2+2's have a slightly extended rear portion to the roof.
