new to the forum in need of help

Hi everyone I'm new to the forum unfortunately out of necessity because I have a 6 gen maxima. When I first turn it on there is a screeching/whistling noise coming from the belt area, as it warms up the noise starts fading away. But the noise is starting to be more consistent. Any help or links to "threads will greatly be appreciated. and thanks for having me here

Welcome to Maxoma.org!

It could be the belt. It could be loose or it is becoming hard and cracking or both.

First start by checking the belt tension. Press on the belt with a 20 pound force in the section between the alternator and the a.c compressor. It should only deflect less than .2 inch. Also inspect the belt. One the inside surface that touches the pulleys, if it has lots of cracks, it should be replaced.

See page 12 in the service manual. Link below.

If you want to down load the entire manual, the link is:

Also, whenever you need some info, please tell us what year your car is. There are differences in each year model, they are not 100% the same.
