98 SE 5spd 292k miles

Forums, my old nemesis. Never posted much. Anyway, I'm 32 and a criminal defense attorney, haven't been doing it all that long yet. Texas.

So I had a '96 GLE that I had gotten from a friend for basically $1000, and it ran for a few months but the transmission has difficulties. Something like 180,000, hard to tell because it has an Infiniti logo on the valve cover and the odometer/speedometer don't reliably work anymore but that's recent. Instead, My parents knew some people that wanted to get rid of their '98 SE, and dirt cheap, so I took a look and I got a car in good shape but with much higher mileage. It has 292-something on the digital display and a manual transmission instead of the automatic. Now, neither car is in what I'd call good shape, but the '98 is better in the important ways, and I've increased its value already since I bought it with a quick trip to the junkyard. The car had been hit on the driver's front corner, and needed a new fender and bumper assembly. We had to hammer the bumper mounts a little to get it to line up but it's on there and I'm happy with it.

By the way, for the car with its body damage, I paid the princely sum of $360. I'm very excited to have so little invested so I can think about ways to improve it. Thinking about a $100 lower control arm/tie-rod etc kit for now. Maybe a y pipe later if I don't need the money for anything else (unlikely).

Anyway, thanks for making it to the end. I'll endeavor to continue reading more than posting but when I do it'll probably be unnecessarily long-winded.
