Hello all,
I'm new to the forum and figured I'd share here before I do some more research. I've got a 2004 Maxima that my family has had for at least the last 10 years that has been.. neglected to say the least. It's got over 200K miles on it and doesn't get driven much even when it has been running since we've generally had other running cars that we could get around with. Unfortunately that changed recently, and now I've been taking another look at it to fill the void of the other non-running vehicle.
I put in a new timing chain set, water pump, thermostat, new radiator and radiator fans, radiator hoses, intake manifold and valve cover gaskets, ignition coils, spark plugs, and probably more that I can't remember at the moment. That was about 3 years ago now. When I slapped it all together and got it running, it got parked and hasn't been driven more than a couple hundred miles since then. It was periodically started but never driven in a substantial way.
Now I got some new tires mounted and balanced, new brakes, new battery, but the only thing not running is the cooling fans now (Until some other worn or broken thing comes to light). That's how I ended up here, I'd come across the forum plenty of times in the past when looking up different things, and I believe I even referenced a guide that was posted on here for the timing chain and water pump replacement. I'm grateful for the information I found here and I'm glad a forum like this exists for people like me who are just trying to learn and keep things together.
I don't yet have access to a FSM, but I've got a Haynes manual to start with and I'll hopefully have the cooling fans checked off and we'll see if anything else pops up once I get that solved. Glad to be here!
