1997 keyless entry

Has anyone tried to add a factory keyless entry system to a Maxima (97 GLX) without that option from the factory? I'd like to know how it went and how difficult it would be. I'd like to think you can plug the module into the car's electronic lock system and voila. Maybe not??

I would appreciate anyone's input.

Thanks, I'll probably try that. Do they usually offer a feature to open the trunk lock also? I've put car alarms in before and I've had to run individual wires to the door sensors, etc. (but these didn't have power locks) and that is a pain. I was wondering if the factory unit was a plug and play type thing.

Thanks for the advice.

do you have a GLE or GXE? also, what options does your car have (i.e., power seats, intermitent wipers, security system...things of that nature that would have come in the C&C package?) if you have the C&C w/o the keyless you could very well just get a remote and program it. one way to check is to get in your car, lock the doors and stick your key in the ignition 6-7 times in 10 seconds, if the hazards flash twice your car is MOST likely equipped with the things you need to just get the remote.

We have the entry level model, GXE I'm pretty sure. It has a power driver seat, intermittent wipers, and there is a flashing light for the security system on the dash but I'm not sure that it actually does anything. We bought it used (from a rental fleet... actually not too bad of an experience) so maybe I never got the remotes?? I'll try what you were saying with the ignition tonight. Thanks!

Like Requin6 above mentioned, seems like you do have the C&C package that was offered as an option which includes the remote keyles entry. One other feature you should have is the Trunk release button on the diver's door. All you have to do is just buy a remote off ebay or someplace (usually around $25.00) and program it. It only takes about 30 seconds to program it and here's hot to do it.

SOunds like you wont be needing an aftermarket alarm. Power seat + intermittent wipers(do you have a sun roof?) - u most likely have the C&C package. pick up a remote on ebay - they can be purchased for less than 30 bucks.

programming keyless remote

Well, I'm back. I ordered a 1999-2002 remote from ebay because that was all that I could find at the time. That didn't work. But that makes sense. Then I found a used 95-99 remote and ordered it.

Here's what I have done.... I did the key in the ignition 6 times and the flashers blink twice. Then the doors are locked and I turn the key to ACC and hit the remote lock button. Then the flashers blink twice and it looks like everything is working. So there is some sort of reciever unit in the car and at least the lock button on the remote works.

But then I take out the keys, unlock the doors, get out and the remote doesn't do anything. I've also put in a new battery in the remote with no luck.

As before, any help would be greatly appreciated.

when you take out the key press the unlock button to make sure its working.. It takes a couple of tries but it work...And when you do make it work, Go out an hold down the unlock button for 3sec and both your driver and passenger window rolls down for you.

Goodluck

Looks like you've got everything you need. Been awhile since I've programmed mine, but I think you have to unlock the driver's door with the lock by the handle (not the "master" lock/unlock) before you take the keys out. Also, the lock button will not work if any of the 4 doors are open even a little. Hope you get it working right.

Re: Re: programming keyless remote

Finally got everything figured out. I had a bad door jamb switch so I had to replace that first. You were correct, you have to unlock and lock with the manual lock on the drivers door while the key is still in the ACC position. The instructions I had were a little misleading because it made it look like you only had to do this if you were programming a second remote. Thanks for everyone's help!

I was wondering if anyone knows whether or not remotes for a 97 Maxima have to have 4 buttons or can they only have three? A friend at a Nissan Dealership took two out of the drawer and gave them to me. But, I realized later that there is no trunk release button. The panic button is in that position with nothing in the position below the unlock button. I think they may be for an Altima or other Nissan. Regardless, my attempts at programming either of the two he gave me have failed. Any advice would be helpful?

The 97 remote (at least the one's that I have) have 4 buttons. One large lock button at the top, a small unlock, trunk release, and panic. I had some three button remotes also and I couldn't get them to work. I also had a remote from a 2002 Maxima and couldn't get that to work either. I would suggest finding one on ebay. Expect to pay $15-20 per remote. Hope that helps.
