JL Audio vrs. Alpine???

I tried this in the audio forum and all I got was one reply.
I have two 12 W3's. I have a friend that wants to buy them for $300. And I am thinking about getting two Alpine Type R 12's. What would you guys think of this Alpine or JL. Thank you very much.

Alpine type-R's and the JL competition subs are both among the best subs you can buy, it all depends on your preference of brands, im a hardcore alpine man myself so id go with alpine, but JL's are good also.

I've got an Alpine Type R. Single 12 in a sealed box powered by a JBL 600.1. The SQ on this thing is excellent, much better than my friend's Kickers and Fosgates. Turn up the bass, and this thing will pound also. I got mine for 130 shipped from ebay, so that might be your best bet. Might want to try the audio section too.

i like the JL W3s personally..but i'm trying to sell my W3 in favor of a W6 v.2
$165 in a db monster ported box (1.5cu-ft)+shipping (preferably pickup..)
like someone said when i was asking the very same question as you. JL is known for making high end subwoofers, alpine is not. alpine's thing are head units, JL's is subs..

i heard a setup with 4 Alpine Type R 12"s in the cab of a dakota; the bass was smooth and the hits were very precise...i just wonder how theyd sound in the trunk of our cars.

Also, anyone here have or have heard/experienced Kicker Comp subs? My "car stereo-head" friend recommends 2 12" kickers for me since im looking for good strong hits

i like jl's personally, 2 w3's in a h/o wedge will slam. I heard it and it was like 4 15's. They pounded soo hard. I heard alpine's too. they sound nice and clean and for the price they are worth it. they both don't need many watts like kicker and punch. They run like 300 watts a piece. whereas the punch power dvc's want like 1500 watts. and for the kicker comps, they are ok, but they aren't as clean as JL's.
