My VE Auto gets extremely slow when it warms up
Ok, my car is running mid 15's when it has a cool engine. But, once it warms completely up to operating temperature, it runs consistant 16.20's. Now, that is a big increase in 1/4 times. And it's very noticable. Now, something is wrong with my car and I can't figure it out. I'm not pulling any codes from the ECU.
So, who out there has a VE (preferrably an Auto) and has this exact problem? Also, who out there has this problem and has been able to fix it? If so, how? Thanks.

Mine is slower too. Odd thing. If I stop for an hour(in the summer time heat) and hop in the car, it runs like a bat outa hell. I would think it would run WORSE w/ all the heat soak. Maybe the engine had time to cool w/in a hour(in the sun)? I wonder if it's related to starting the car warm and "resets" the timing?
Anyway, I think if you could get some Nissan Consult time and verify the timing when colder and when it's hot, would help solve the mystery. ie.. a sensor sending the ecu wrong info that results in too much timing pullback. I'm fairly certain it's timing related.

mine feels sluggish off the line all the time but more so after driving awhile so youre not alone here...ive never took it to the track and tested my 1/4s but i do notice by around town driving.
*Quick question while were on a VE auto thread: while at 1/2-3/4 throttle at the 1-2 shift, the car jerks forward a bit just as 2nd gear is engaging when the rpms drop; this only happens sometimes, not at every 1-2 shift...is this a sign of something...

with the engine though, sometimes the thing just fly's, like its gotten a power shot or something, but other times (normally when its hot or if the engine has been on for a while) it gets sluggish. i havent figured it out yet. it seems to happen the most then you dont expect it, if that makes sense. what i mean is that if it was really dependant on heat, it would happen more when i drive it hard for a while, but thats not the case, more than 1/2 the time. sometimes its just when i am alittle more agressive than not, and gradually climbing hills but keeping it in the current gear. its really wierd. infact its funny, more often than not, when i want to go fast, it doesnt, but when i want to just cruise, it wants to really GO. just kinda funny.

sorry if thats hard to understand, im tired but addicted to the ORG

Some theories are that the knock sensor is bad, the coolant temperature sensor is bad, a while back I participated in a thread where I and someone else thought maybe a very hot intake manifold could be the culprit and therefore making a phenolic manifold bracket would help (do a search on that one). The sad thing is, it is probably alot of things that just come together and mess with the ECU. If someone with a VE wins the lottery, can they drop a grand or two and replace every sensor in their VE to see if that fixes the problem?

I know the VE's weren't like this when they were new.
Oh yeah, JEFF, I can still get the Consult device from my friend if you think it will help. I just thought that I can get a timing light and check my timing when cool and then when warm. Just to get an idea of what's happening.
Thanks for everybody's help.
For the past couple of months, I had been having problems with my car being sluggish. Eventually it worsened and the car wasn't even able to start, so I got it looked at and they replaced the alternator. That still didn't fix the sluggish problem. I then grounded the VTCs, and it seemed to fix it, except after about 5-10 minutes, it would turn sluggish again. I only notice it under about 3k rpm, in any gear. It seems as if the timing is being retarded at certain points. I will be cruising around goung 55, and if I try to give it some gas in 5th, it will not speed up at all, it actuall slows down.
