Stock struts/shocks + ANY lowering springs = BAD . . . . . . .

I've been there, done that. Learned my lesson the hard way.

If you're gonna pay a mechanic to do this, then try to save up for some shocks to so you only pay labor once.
Also, this job shouldnt cost more than $200, no matter where in the country you are. I'd get H&R springs. You can get them for around $215 shipped. And as for shocks, I'd get KYB GR2's. I dont need the adjustability of the AGX.

But you know what, I did a suspension job on an Integra for a friend of mine. He got HRs and AGX's. Boy oh boy, the AGX are some NICE shocks... The ride quality and handling was unbelievably awesome. I wonder if the GR2's will be that good too. I"m gonna be getting some GR2's soon.

A shop should only charge you like 2 hours for the labor. That price they quoted you is probably because:

(1) You're young and they can rip you off
(2) They're scammers and trying to rip you off
(3) They really don't wanna do it, so they're gonna rip you off.

Why not try a Midas Muffler or a Meineke. Sometimes you get lucky and find a place, that has car enthusiasts who like doing that kinda stuff.

Take your own advice and save up the extra few dollars to get the AGX's. Even if you don't take advantage of the adjustability for performance reasons you could use it as the struts age to offset wear and extend their life. As they soften over time you can stiffen them to compensate.

I have tried different settings on mine a few times (with H&R's) and always seem to end up back on 1/2. I'll probably leave them there from now on because where I live they seem to ride/handle the best for everyday driving at those settings.

i rode on my stock struts for 6 months before they were blown. when i took them off only the rears were actually blown. regardless i would recommend doing the struts and springs at the same time to avoid the installation fee twice unless you are gonna do it yourself

It would take me (without any air tools) about 3-4 hours to do. I don't think a shop needs anywhere near 6 hours. 2 hours is the most I'd pay a shop to do it.

I say you save money and do it yourself. That's what I'm going to do. I went to a shop and they told they would do it for $300. That's too much. I could use that money on a y-pipe or something.
