mechanic said my addco rsb doesn't do anything for maxima's??!?!

for 1997 max:

i was at my mechanic last week putting on new slotted rotors/break pads...

while the car was up on the lift, he asked me about my REAR ANTI-SWAY BAR. I said that it helps keep the back part of my car from swaying around when i turn/sway from lane to lane. I told him that it makes it more stiffer and my back follows my front more now.

He started laughing and started to show me that the two beams on the sides of the car never move, and the rear axel neither. Therefore, im just adding another bar that just hangs and doesn't do anything because all those 3 beams that the bar is attached to don't move.

He explained to me that most other cars will benefit from this RSB, but not for the maxima...

===From past experience, my mechanic proved to be very knowledgable and experienced, but after this incident i lost most respect for his skills===

I told him that as soon as i put on the bar i noticed a difference on my turns and lane changes(not as much as turns)....he just replied that he knows more engineering and bla bla...

I had no way of mechanically/engineeringly explaining to him how the bar works with our cars...

what do you guys have to say???

Find another mechanic.

I'm suprised that he didn't tell you that your new rotors were a waste of money as well.

Curious - Do you know what kind of car your machanic drives? Chevy perhaps?

From Maxima FAQ's

Since the 95+ Maxima doesn't have a conventional rear suspension, our RSB isn't a conventional one either. It has four mounting points, which consist of two clamps on each trailing arm. Andi recommends you install it so that the RSB hangs one inch behind the rear axle, using the inner bolt holes for the trailing arm clamps. You can see pictures of Andi's RSB here.

Here's info on our rear end:

so it seems in a sense my mechanic was write in concluding that since the beams are all welded together for a "stock rsb" ... the additional bar didn't do anything. But he must've been ignorant in not noticing that the addco just helps out the stock rsb by twisting when too much body roll occurs on one end of the rear suspension.
