88 Max VS 88 celica GT

Ok the other night while driving i got bored while crusing with 2 of my freinds. One has a 98 toyota corolla and i was like for sure i could beat the car so i used some power shifting and beat it by 3 car lengths, the next car i wasnt so sure about but i might do it later. Its a 88 toyota celica GT and its stick so its pretty good at high speeds 85 + cuz it was zooming when it hit 60. My max does pretty good from 0-60 then slows a little. I checked the stats on the celica and its pretty close to my max 88 auto. I know ill race eventually but what do u guys think?

If it's just the regular GT model, then it only puts out 115 HP. You'd easily kill it. The GT-S puts out 135 HP, so it would be a closer race, but if your car is running good, you should be able to put him away. If it's the All-Trac Turbo, it puts out 190 HP and he'll easily beat you. Those are only liftback models, they didn't make a turbo coupe back in '88.

As for the race itself, stop at 85 mph, you go any faster and you're liable to kill yourself or someone else. If you want to go faster, go to the drag strips. I used to race everyone I could and drove fast and hard, and after I got $3,000 worth of tickets and saw a few other people trash their cars, that ended up convincing me to slow it down. A guy I knew was driving his dad's Porsche, ended up plowing into this lady that was making a turn in front of him, and killed her only child. He ended up spending 2 years in jail, 5 years on probabtion, thousands of dollars in fines, a trashed Porsche 911 Turbo, and the lady sued them for over a $1,000,000.

So trust me, while it may be fun to race, be as careful and responsible about it as you can. Do it on a straightaway with very little traffic. I think once you hit about 85, you can easily determine who has the faster car, at least in terms of 0-60 and 1/4 mile. Top speed doesn't mean anything if you can't accelerate for sh*t. And at 85, you should have enough time to brake in an emergency, assuming you're on a straightaway with little traffic and good visibility.

Smart post Charles. My cousin scared the s**t out of me when I was in his Corvette and he decided to hit 152. And he had a couple beers in him also. Not smart.

I hit $140 in my 4th gen just yesterday, and it kept pulling. Traffic was moderate, but I had to test out my turbo work and the tranny, but Charles is right. Be the judge and know the difference between road rage and racing. Street racing is done responsibly, block off all sidestreets and access points to your strip (like they did in the Fast and the Furious, which was BS btw), or take it to your drag track.

It's not really worth dying or paying through your a$$ in legal fees to someone later.

Whats with all this road rage stuff? Im not a stupid driver,if i race anybody itll be on a green light and it might top off at 40-50, or in front of a freinds house who has a long quiet road, or maybe even in the back roads near the military base since WA "is a heavy wooded area in some parts" im not exactly going all out fast and furious 150 + nah thats crazy haha. SO thanx for the concern but yeh ive seen my friends do crazy **** i know what ur talking about thanx for the concern though.

dude for real. race the 1/4. every town has some where everyone goes and races. its probally already marked off. trust me hitting some one at 100+ mph is not fun. i did it in a honda. it s not worth all the work and money you put in you car. you race to race again. yeah going fast kicks. ive gone 202mph in a callaway corvette(no i wasnt driving) but if you wanna do that hit the interstate at bout 2am on a week day. aint no traffic. and if you got a center catch rail like we do around here, you really dont have to worry about cops. if one passes you the other way your gone before they knew what happened
