What intake really works?

Hey Org. members,

I know there has been a lot of dicussion about intakes, but I want to put one on my 2K3 Max SE. I like most of you don't have money to just through away. All that to say which one really works and doesn't loose any low end torque?

Hey newb, welcome to the board.

Dont be fooled into thinking that any aftermarket intake causes a 'loss'. They dont. They just gain more power for example in the mid and high end, so the low end remains the same and by comparison seems weak. You have a number of choices. If you want a CAI I must say the Injen is the way to go. Quality finish and no cutting on your car. If you want the more traditional 'pop' you have either Berk (cheaper) or frankencar (midpipe = louder and possible more power). They are all pretty nice in their own ways. Just make sure you are EXREMELY careful handling the MAF sensor. If you drop it or jostle it around, odds are you cars gonna go kaput sooner or later!

All of them work to some extent. You will most likely lose some low end torque no matter what you put on, but you make up for it over the rest of the powerband.

not CAI......and loss of low end torque is really outside temperature dependant.

I'm speaking for me...In Phoenix, even with CAI you lose some low end.

I'm VERY happy with my Injen CAI. I had the Frankencar and liked it quite a bit...I really liked the WOT sound. But I got a LOT of throttle valve whistling that I thought was completely unacceptable. The Injen sounds very nice, especially at lower RPMs, but less aggressive than the FC. I immeditately noticed much better throttle response with the Injen, and it looks MUCH better.

Good luck!

even if you loose a little of low end torque, that will make your acceleration time worse as long as you gain from the middle to high end.

In comparison to my Frankencar, the Injen sounds more tame. But, the low-rpm growl is NICE! Once it reaches 4K it sounds louder than stock but not LOUD like you'd expect. I think the Frankencar was very impressive, but it made the engine sound like it had something to prove...like a little dog that has to bark to get noticed. Now, with the Injen, it sounds more refined but just as potent. And the throttle response makes it ALL worth while.

Well, my description is kinda odd, but true. Hope you get my point.

Best intake? Stock Box. Trust me, race cars for the most part use the stock box with a ram air modification. They must know something...
