headlights don't shut off automatically?

is this for all gen's of maxima?
I always thought it was common even for a 99 for the headlights to shut off when the cars turned off.

If I remember correctly, my 3rd gen headlights stayed on when I shut my car off as well.

Right. I don't understand why Nissan only started with auto on/off in the 5th gens...my old '91 Crown Victoria had auto and a little timer to go with it.

What is the reson for this feature anyway? Isn't it simple enough to turn the ****? And when you forget to turn them off, and you shut off the ignition, the car makes a little beeping noise to remind you to shut them off. Although it's just my personal preference, I find the automatic lights on the '02 Max and the '96 Sable (family members' cars) to be just a nuiscance.

It always seemed to be one of those "Automatic!" marketing gimmicks that american car companies in particular love.

"Automatic door locks above 15mph!"
"Automatic running boards!"
"Automatic rear seat folding down!"
"Automatic daytime running lights!"

Personally some of the automatic things I'm more against than others, but headlights are mixed. I still think people should be fine with turning headlights off the old way, especially when a) it's obvious and b) the cars make a warning noise to catch the .001% of the time when the obviousness escapes the driver.
