heres the deal, my auto is about to fail on me, and theres a shop here that will tackle the project for auto to manual conversion, my friend took his integra there a few days ago and he paid about 2700 for the swap including a ACT stage 3 clutch. I know that itll probably be more costly on the maxima than on the integra considering its probably just more difficult to put in and so forth. Well my question is, what parts are compatible between 4th and 5th gen 5spds, mainly the big things, like the 5spd transmission itself, axles, clutch, flywheel. I ask about the transmission because im pretty sure i can pick up a used 5spd from a 4th gen much cheaper and easier to find than a 5th gen 5spd donor car.

4th gen manual trannys aren't as strong as 5th gen manual trannys. If I remember correctly from what DAVEB told me, 1st and 2nd gears are strengthened on the 5th gens.

but is it still possible to just bolt up the 4th gen manual to a 5th gen, cuz i dont plan on making loads of power, rather just want a 5spd.

 

If I were you I'd stay away from a 4th gen 5 speed tranny simply because the tranny is bound to be older than a 5th gen you can find, hence more worn out parts, and the potential for bad bearings is in the 4th gen, not the 5th gen.

I agree. Also, 4th gens manual trannys have some type of bearing problem, right?
