Annoying Knocking Sound

Ok Guys, I am fairly new to this board and based on all the responses I got from my first post I came here again for your help.

I thought I was having VTC issues, I called Courtesy Nissan to get prices on new VTC units, he said 370 each. Well while I had him on the phone I was explaining the sound and he said it doesn't sound like VTC at all, he said VTC is more like a ticking sound.

I will try to explain the knocking sound to you guys and where it is coming from. When I start the car cold it is quiet as a mouse, after it starts warming up or when it is real hot (after being driven around for awhile) it starts this really loud knocking sound. It doesn't do it all the time, it comes and goes. When I have the car idling and I rev it up to 2500-3000 and I take my foot off the gas and when the car starts to climb down from the rev it starts knocking until the car goes back to normal idle, sometimes the knock will stay for a little while, while idling. Ok, I don't know much about cars so I will try to explain where I think the knock is coming from, first of all take a look at these pics, HERE I took a picture of my engine. I think where the knock is coming from is the intake, in that picture of my engine to the right of the oil cap is three electricall looking devices, then there are three more of those up above the engine up higher. Well that big silver thing that the top three are sitting on is where I believe the knocking is coming from and maybe behind that silver thing towards the back of the engine.

Sorry if this is so confusing, I do not know much about cars and what I do know is doing tune ups, that is it.

Yes, I have tried the search feature and I cannot come up with much, Please try and help me out guys. I need a car to drive bad and I don't want to drive this if it is not running right.

Thanks!!

Whenever something strange happens to my car, I always go back to the basics....

Check the fluids....
Change the oil and filters...
Check the ignition coils, wires, and plugs...

You may also want to run some fuel injector cleaner through the system with the highest octane gas you can get...

If none of these things work, the timing could be off which may require a little more work....

How many miles do you have on the car?

You have a great color combo... I have the black on black and it is just too hot down here in Atlanta...

Thanks for the Reply

I will try all of that stuff you said, see I just got the car on the 18th of this month and I probaly put 10-15 miles on it. I don't want to drive it b/c of that sound, I don't want it to futher damage my vehicle. I have 89,700 miles on it, I have no idea of this cars past maintenance so it would probably be best to do all of that stuff.

Thanks

I will be under the hood along with you this weekend. My Max has been shuddering whenever I gun it(I hit the gas and it acts like I let out the gas) so I will be looking at the same things. I have already ruled out the Fuel Injectors by putting in some gum out on the last fillup. My car is now more responive but still shudders. I am going to replace the oil and filters but I am starting to think that it's time to replace the ignition coils and plugs. I think I will also clean out the throttle body and check the throttle body assembly.

I will figure out what my problem is!!.....and I am sure you will get your problem resolved also. You just have to have some patience and rule different things out.....
