involved with a hit&run

Just wanted to remind everyone out there if you ever get in an accident that you should not move your car from the road until you at least get the other guy's license down. It sounds really obvious but I, unfortunately, was stupid enough to forget about this and gave the other guy a chance to speed off after hitting me in the driver side door. Now I am stuck with dealing with my own insurance and paying the $1000 deductable, plus having no choice but to work longer hours to pay for the inevitable insurance rate hikes.

Does anyone know if I will be able to rent a car in a situation like this if I'm 18? I'll be going off to college in a week, and my new job is so far from campus that taking the bus/taxi will simply not be a viable solution.

And for those interested, here are some pictures of the car:

Sorry to hear about your accident...

You really can't 'stop' the other guy from speeding away... hopefully you got the license plate of the car and report it to the police. Sometimes you 'need' to move your car if it is dangerous to other drivers or such... remember to get witnesses when you can, too.

Good luck...

Man, that sucks.

Do you have an idea of what kind of car it was? The police can do a search based on this (Brand, model, colour, year, etc) I'm sure. Maybe you can find him this way.

SOrry to hear about your ride though. Gonna need a new door, and possibly some frame damage. Only $1000?

Just a reminder to all: Carry a disposable camera in your glove box at ALL times (hey, if nothing else, we can get pics for ricecop.com!). I'm assuming that this won't melt the camera of course.

talk to your insurance company. I think Enterprise is the only company that will rent to people under the age of 25 as long as the insurance company is paying. Been there and done that...good luck

you gotta have the disposible camera. if you get hit, grab the camera and snap. don't even talk to the other driver, just start snapping pics. you never know who's behind the other wheel.

Enterprise actually charges an outrageous under 21 fee (around $97/day) even if going through your insurance company. Your best bet is to try some of the smaller places. Even Alamo charges much less.

i feel your pain dude i was involved in a hit and run on thursday myself... i got hit the rear driver fender/bumper need all new ones with the way it is creased.... i didn't get the plate down either... but mine is still driveable and i have a second vehicle plus they won't rent to someone under 18 no matter who is paying! lol

as wrong as it is in some ways.... i might call it a hit in a parking lot at night (i work in a lot that is always getting car accidents so it isn't unusual)

plus then it is totally no fault... no insurance hikes, since it wasn't my fault at all!!! seriously i admit when i am wrong but this was all HER fault!

i think it is illegal not to rent a car to someone under 25. but they will charge a minor fee.

you will not be able to rent a car. trust me.. not even if you are 21.. 23 is the lowest age and that is with a huge insurance fee. you won't get a car, no matter where..

and sorry to hear about the hit and run, i was just in one, $500 deductible.. check out the sig.

So far the estimate on the damage is about $6000. I bet my insurance company is going to hate me forever and is just waiting for my current policy to expire so they can charge me an arm and a leg.

Wrent-a-reck

I was on my way down to Panama City Florida for Spring Break this year and as our luck would have it my friend totaled his maxima and we were in quite a predicament (We were all between 18 and 19). It took us about 10 hours but we finally found a place that would rent to 19 year olds. It was called Wrent-a-reck but I'm not sure if that's the correct spelling. Try there. Anyways, we wound up getting a rose (dark pink) Chevy Metro with no options at all. Then too add insult to injury it was record low cold weather in florida the first few days. Luckily I was able to get ****-faced every night and forget about my sorrows.

Good luck.

Peace.
