the A/C on my 98 SE gets a 5-star rating. Always ice-cold even with the R134a, never any problems. I don't think I've ever seen the moisture drain from it though, where is the downtube?

since we're on this topic, i think nissan screwed up my ACC on my 95 GLE. the only cold temp. is 65. 66-85 is hot. is very annoying to have to be very cold to be cold at all. is there a way to fix this? im guessing they fixed this in 98?

I have a 98 and my AC cuts off and turns back on. Still can't find what is the problem.

I have to agree with Frank here. My 99 is like a refrigerator in the summer. And I have Black Leather too!

Oh the drain tube is right under the passenger side, sort of where your passengers feet would be.

Well, I don't have climate control, just the regular A/C but I will say it ROCKS! ICE cold when I want to freeze, and FIRE hot when I want to burn.

I don't think anything can really clog up in an automotive air vent... I wouldn't believe it were I you.

I have a 97 and it sucks in Texas, my friend has a 99 and it also sucks in Texas.

Works fine in cooler temps though.

I have a 2k2 SE. When the temperature outside is 85 or higher it doesn't cool very well at all. Unless you drive around for about 30 minutes. Then it gets cold. When its less than 85 degrees or so it gets cold after about 5 minutes, especially at night. I can't understand this.

Yeah...ever since I got my A/C charged last year, the air is "ice cold". Very big difference from before. In the summertime, I use my A/C almost every time I get in the car!

The problem with the AC in the 2k2 is that for one there isn't enough insulation on the low pressure side. It comes out of the compressor and is within an inch of the exhaust manifold and has hot air blasted on it from the radiator right in front. I have been contemplating adding more insulatio and a heat sheild to see if it would help when the car isn't moving. The reason it does so much better when it's moving is becasue so much more outside air flows across the condensor which brings it's temp down to better levels. When the car isn't moving that condensor gets hot and the electric fans simply can't draw enough air to keep it as cool as it needs to be.
And has any 5th gen owners noticed their compressors making noise? Mine is getting progresivly worse. My 4th gen car stayed quiet as a mouse.

2K2 owners take your car to the dealership and complain about the AC. Mine was just like Jesse's. I complained about it in passing at the dealership when I was there getting my recall work done. Apparently it had a bad O-ring. They replaced it and recharged the system. Now instead of taking like 30 minutes to cool the car down it only takes my 5 minutes or less.

The service guy remarked about how badly the AC worked when I picked it up. He couldn't believe that I hadn't brought it in earlier.

Nothing beats R12. My 90 Accord would cool the air so much on hot days that the air coming from the vents would fog up once it got into the cabin. Of the R134a cars I've driven, my Maxima is one of the best.

Has anyone here used any of the DIY recharge kits? My AC is getting less effective than it once was...
